I grew up in church. My dad was a pastor, so church was just… what we did.

For the longest time, I honestly thought I was only there because I was supposed to be. I’d go out the night before, sit through the service, and leave without really even understanding why I was there.

I knew about God, but I didn’t really know Him.

If you would’ve asked me at the beginning of this year where I’d be today, I never would’ve guessed this. And to be honest… I didn’t even think I’d make it through January. My mind was in such a dark place that I couldn’t picture a future.

Then somewhere along the way, God met me.

My faith stopped being something I inherited and instead became something I chose.

I remember hearing the song “Forever YHWH,” and something about it hit me so deeply. From that point on, my heart just kept changing. & looking back, I know it wasn’t just a song, that was the Holy Spirit drawing me closer to Jesus.

Not because I suddenly became good enough, not because I had everything figured out. He just met me, where I was. And the more I got to know Him, the more He started changing my heart in ways I still cannot fully explain.

I still have hard days. I still have questions. But I also have hope.

My circumstances aren’t perfect, and neither am I. But my life has so much more peace, purpose, joy, and hope than it used to.

If you feel like you’re too far gone, too broken, or like God couldn’t possibly work in your life, please hear this: I thought the. same. exact. thing.

God has a way of working in your life that you never could’ve planned yourself. Sometimes He changes your circumstances. Sometimes He changes your heart. For me, He did both.
