it’s funny how you can walk past something so many times until you stop and notice, and then everything changes. For the last 1.5 years I’ve been photographing the Muslim men of NY in their moment of prayer. While I’m not religious, it struck something profound in me. I’d been sitting on these thoughts for a while but in the spirit of Ramadan I just posted my latest piece on substack. its deeply personal and honestly nerve wracking but I strive to be in my vulnerability as much as I can with the hopes that if we all did, there would be more love, more kindness, more unity. Read the whole essay on my substack - link in bio 🤍 by @leyaijaz
I once asked my older half sister (a refugee lawyer) why she has been committed to freeing Palestine her entire life, she knew more about Palestine than me, and I’m the Palestinian one in the family. She had visited the land, gotten arrested, interrogated, she learned the language, she’s fought and fought relentlessly to liberate my people. So why specifically Palestine? Her answer had been so simple yet moved me so much “Because to me what’s happening in Palestine is the basis of what’s wrong with human rights, and if we can’t fix that, we can’t fix the rest”. I agree, it’s actually so simple, if you don’t stand with Palestine, you don’t stand for universal human dignity and human rights. One day I dream of going with her to Palestine. I dream of touching the soil in Haifa. Maybe then, my soul will feel at home. Free Palestine now and always ❤️❤️❤️ by @leyaijaz

Creative director and director @leyaijaz takes us backstage at @willychavarria SS27, a collection centred on communion and meditation. Reflecting on the show, Ijaz notes that the relentless Paris heat seeped into the styling too: “Maybe we all needed a meditation after all, crashing out from the heat hahaha.” by @leyaijaz
Leya in all her forms and uniforms. by @leyaijaz
i escaped the heatwave in Paris and took a 12 hour journey to this tiny island in greece. My mother was famished but i insisted I jump in the sea. I’d been waiting 342 days for this moment. Filled with impatience i ran to the tiny beach below our apartment as if in a movie removing every layer off my body until finally, i reached the water. I felt an instant cleansing. Of what.. im not sure… but for a second i met myself. I knew everything I was and everything i wanted to be. I hadn’t seen her in a while. As soon as the feeling came it was already gone. I floated watching the horizon melt into the water in an infinite sea of blue. I thought to myself, this is what I’ll see when i die. I don’t know if there’s a heaven, but mine, is right here. by @leyaijaz
