I finally found a quiet moment to sit down and read through some of the reviews of my composition "9/8".

I’m deeply touched by the generosity of these words and very grateful to every writer and publication who took the time to listen so closely and engage with the piece. Some of these assessments set a rather high bar – one I can only hope to live up to in the music I write next...

“Another stunning and stunningly adventurous piece from one of the most exciting and eclectic music makers working today”
Dave Franklin, The Big Takeover · July 17, 2026

“This is a truly remarkable orchestral experience, a fusion of technical ingenuity and dramatic power”
Natalie Patrick, EARMILK · July 10, 2026

“She truly is proving to be one of the greats”
Graeme Smith, York Calling · July 13, 2026

“Leyla Romanova uses the uneven cadence of ‘9/8’ to disrupt the predictable structures of cinematic composing”
Fernando Nunez, Visual Atelier 8 · July 15, 2026

“Leyla Romanova continues to stake her claim as a leading composer”
James Webster, Plastic Magazine · July 8, 2026

“A piece that feels made for picture, full of orchestral force, electronic texture, Eastern-tinged accents, and piano writing”
Olivia, Cinematic Giants · August 10, 2026

“It feels like the score to an epic film that hasn’t yet been made”
Editorial Team, Rotate Magazine · July 22, 2026

“Romanova demonstrates not only technical mastery but also a keen sense of storytelling without words”
Kamil Bobin, The Musical Road · July 23, 2026

“A listening experience that seems to transcend genre and time”
Kieran Rogers, Clout · August 1, 2026 by @leyla.e.romanova

Some songs feel like they were created from a memory, and My Sun by Leyla Romanova carries exactly that kind of magic. Inspired by a childhood moment that left a lasting impression and later shaped by her own experience of finding love, she delivers a heartfelt and cinematic duet that celebrates connection, devotion, and the belief that true love can overcome any distance.

From the very beginning, My Sun feels warm and uplifting. There is a timeless quality to the songwriting that recalls classic soul duets while remaining fresh and contemporary. Rather than focusing on grand declarations, the song succeeds through its sincerity, allowing emotion to guide every note and phrase.

A major strength of the track lies in the chemistry between featured vocalists Mishell Ivon and Jerome Brooks Jr. Their performances complement one another beautifully, creating the feeling of two people sharing a genuine conversation through music. Mishell brings elegance, soul, and expressive depth, while Jerome adds warmth and classic charm that perfectly suits the song’s romantic spirit. Together, they transform the composition into something truly memorable.
