Most companies sell you an object on a white page. Leia Sfez puts it on a dinner table.

@theoblist held a dinner at @ogata.paris, Shinichiro Ogata’s house of tea, cuisine and objects on rue Debelleyme, with pieces from Szkło, Lucy Page, @teget and Hein Studio.

Leia’s life is built around the objects people keep. She co-founded @theoblist with her husband as a curation of interior pieces from emerging artists and established designers. Most of what it sells is made to order.

Spooky Trivia - Wednesday, October 14, 7PM @girlsonlygameclub. Girls Only Game Club brings its 3rd annual spooky trivia night to nicos bottle shop + baby battista bar, with questions covering niche camp films, goth lore, celeb costumes, and witchy rituals. Teams compete for the win, and the winning team takes home a bottle of wine per player.

Plot plays Go - Thursday, October 15, 7PM @plooooooot. Plot kicks off its Go Night series with a session on navigating the possibility space of Go, the ancient strategy game also known as weiqi or baduk. Oliver Polzin, a naturalist, writer, and artist who has played Go since 1996, covers its legendary origins alongside the I Ching and Feng Shui as well as its modern significance in the AI era, including Lee Sedol’s defeat by AlphaGo and Shin Jin-seo’s win over KataGo, before attendees play together. Beginners are welcome, and guests can bring their own board and a friend.

Silver Gemstone Ring Workshop - Friday, October 16, 12PM @claedo.studio. Claedo Studio walks participants through transforming pure silver clay into a custom ring, covering molding, carving, and firing techniques. Each guest leaves the same day with a one-of-a-kind finished piece reflecting their own style. Sessions run for 2 hours and each appointment is reserved for one individual only.

Gorp Girls Sturtevant Falls Hike - Saturday, October 17, 7AM @gorpgirls. Gorp Girls LA and Trak Ground Wear lead a 3.4-mile hike with about 700 feet of elevation gain to Sturtevant Falls in the San Gabriel Mountains. Trak Ground Wear, developed with Dr. Eric Goodman of Foundation Training, gifts participants compression socks along with items from Freaks of Nature. All proceeds from the hike go to the Los Angeles Conservation Corporation.

Live Jazz with JIJI’s Jazz Club - Saturday, October 17, 8PM @townhousevenice. Saxophonist David Cultura headlines a night of live jazz at Townhouse Venice, the neighborhood’s oldest bar and a longtime hub for live music. There’s a version of a life that’s full of experiences and the people you met inside them.

Most of the time it stays a passing thought. Inspiration shows up, the wish to be somewhere else with someone new, and then the reality of planning arrives. Dates, flights, the where, who, and how. The orchestration eats the motivation.

Some people take that part off your plate. Helene is one of them.

She runs @mooretreat out of the Lofoten Islands in northern Norway, the place she grew up and still calls her backyard. A week outdoors with women from all over the world, different lives, same values. Moving your body, breathing cold air, eating well, sleeping, and connecting. Her word for it is ikigai, a reason for being, the thing that gets you out of bed.

Film Festival: Closing Night Party - Saturday, October 10, 8:30PM @rsffla. The celebration caps a week of screenings, workshops, panels, and parties spotlighting emerging, underfunded filmmaking talent across Los Angeles. RSFF is a nonprofit festival built by filmmakers for filmmakers, launched in an Echo Park living room in 2021.

Saba Surf Yoga Class - Sunday, October 11, 9AM @saba_surf. This 60-minute practice blends a dynamic vinyasa sequence with a slow, mellow yin deep stretch, meeting practitioners of all levels where they are. Noa leads the flow with mindful breath work, fluid movement, and curated music, and a complimentary drink follows class. Bring your own mat, though a few extras are available.

Book Club Supper Club - Sunday, October 11, 12PM @grainofsalt.la. This Halloween rerun revisits It Lasts Forever and Then It’s Over by Anne de Marcken, the post-apocalyptic book that started the series, following an undead narrator through a strange purgatory. Read the book cover to cover, then settle in for a four-course dinner with drink pairings on an all-new, spooky-themed menu, with vegan and vegetarian options always available.

Tattoo a Mug with Steve - Thursday, October 15, 7PM @stevesbackhouse. Steve Stringer, the ceramicist and illustrator behind Backhouse, leads a hands-on session where guests decorate their own ceramic mug. A chance to walk away with a one-of-a-kind piece made by hand.

Wheel Class: Clay, Coffee + Croissants - Saturday, October 10, 11AM @malibupotteries. Surf Canyon and Malibu Potteries lead a hands-on wheel-throwing class paired with fresh coffee and croissants. Most dinners start with people you already know. 3rd Space starts with thirty-six strangers.

The latest one had a table of its own. Finished walnut and a continuous steel candle holder, set in a partial circle. In their words, it’s completed by the people who gather around it.

@3rdspace.3rdspace began in 2023 at USC, seating young founders at dinner with people they hadn’t met. Now it’s a monthly dinner and art exhibition in New York. Guests come alone and don’t know who else is coming. Each volume has a highlight, such as a chef, musician, artist or designer, who sits at the table like everyone else.

The Brutalist magazine’s first issue comes alive as an immersive space of objects, plants, concrete, food, and drink. BotanicalSound performs live bio-sonics with exotic plants by ADLR, Giulio Design Studio live-sculpts clay into brutalist forms up for bidding, and a special guest closes the night with a live vinyl set of dub and deep techno courtesy of Bizarro Sound.
