1. Start learning code. When you’re told to do something ask why, ask what is the code regarding that particular topic. Wether it’s strapping, conduit fill, lighting circuits, ask questions, reference code.
2.Anticipate. Anticipate what the person you are helping is going to do/need next. If it’s a tool or a piece of material , pay attention so you know the next step before they do. If your working alone anticipate what the next task is before being asked. This is a big one and will get you doing solo work before others.
3. Be trustworthy. If you don’t know how to do something ask. You want people to trust your work and know that your confident in what you’ve done. Don’t half ass something or second guess yourself. Ask how to do it right and then take your time doing it that way.
4.Accuracy over speed. In your first year and when you are learning, there is no need to solely focus on speed. I made this mistake in the beginning and it only slowed me down. Focus on accuracy and speed will come. Electrical is repetition and the more you do something the quicker and better you get it done.
5. Learn how to read prints/plans. I had experience in this before starting as an apprentice but I recommend you study and learn it as soon as possible. Look at plans on the job if your allowed and constantly follow where your at and what is changing on the plans. You’ll the. Learn how to lay out lighting/receptacles/rooms & Fire alarm pipe work+ boxes.
6. Be reliable. This is the easiest one in my opinion yet I’ve seen so many fail at this. Show up, week after week, and when you show up have a good work ethic. It gets noticed more than you think. Everyone has bad days but try to stay true to your work ethic.

If you’re just starting out, hold on cuz it gets so much better. Nothing worth having comes easy and it’s the same for respect. Showing up, proving myself and earning my spot has been such a gratifying experience overall. Not all days are perfect, but I’m so grateful for the knowledge and growth Ive gained in such a short time. Only up 🤙🏽

I’ve always been cool. My compromise to wear a dress to my first communion was that I would only do it if I got to ride out on a Harley. 😂 The guy in that photos in heaven unfortunately but he’d be super proud of who I am, and for that I’m grateful.

Life doesn’t always turn out the away you expect it to but how you move and deal with the things life throws at you is everything. I feel like I could be working harder honestly. Every time I tell someone I’m committed for the next 8 years to electrical they think I’m crazy 🤪

I have so much further to go , but I’ve come so far. Trades changed my life, it could change yours too. If not the trades, just making changes in general. I got sober 16 months ago, started a new job, started getting into fitness.. small changes over time 🤞🏽-LezSparky
