Together We Race the @rundaisydash

🌼 Y’all, a little history behind this Sunday’s Daisy Dash!

It started in 1978 as an all-women’s race, creating opportunities for female runners when many races had excluded them. It’s now Austin’s oldest 5K!

Today, everyone is welcome, but its roots still shine through: women finishers receive a fresh gerbera daisy, and the race supports The Girls Movement, a Marathon Kids program empowering girls through running. 💛

A pretty special tradition to cheer on this Sunday! 🙌

Our first and certainly not last collab with the amazing folks at Fresh Monkee Austin, a new Truly Healthy Shakes place featuring a wide variety of healthy and protein-heavy coffee, smoothies, shakes, and juices, among other things.

We loved our route that took us through our old stomping grounds - our state capitol building, the Bob Bullock star, the Blanton Art Museum, and Speedway through UT.

This weekend, we celebrated the life of my Uncle Sal/Tio Chava/Tio Salvador in a beautiful memorial in the RGV. He was my dad's younger brother by one year. He was an educator for 41 years. First as a teacher and then principal. It was evident at the service how many lives he touched by the sheer volume of people who attended the rosery and stayed for the mass and memorial. To me, he will always be the uncle who took an interest in my wild adventures and my education long after my father passed. He was a man of faith and was most proud of his children and grandchildren. The only reason Irma and I received our UT graduation rings long after graduation was because his grandson was going to receive one too for UT Pharmacy, and he wanted to celebrate us all at once for our accomplishments. That night, he beamed with pride to see all three rings at dinner. I'm grateful for the time I got to spend with him these last few years. Most recently last spring when I visited with him. I'll always treasure the stories he shared about my dad when he was a young boy. I ask that you keep his family in your prayers at this time.
