After 6 days in the hospital, I'm finally home! The scariest part of what happened to me is that I had no symptoms and felt good. I still feel good and felt good the whole time I was in the hospital but I had acute kidney failure. This is how it happened:The "Perfect Storm" That Hurt Your Kidneys
• The Tums (Calcium Carbonate): Taking 7 or more Tums a day provided a massive daily load of calcium and alkali. When calcium levels in the blood get too high (hypercalcemia), it causes the blood vessels leading into the kidneys to constrict. This slashes blood flow to your kidneys, causing sudden injury.
• The Vitamin D3: Vitamin D's primary job is to force your body to absorb calcium from your gut. Combining high-dose D3 with a heavy Tums intake acted like an accelerator, pumping even more calcium straight into your bloodstream.
• The Ibuprofen & BC Powder: Both of these are NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) because BC powder contains aspirin and caffeine. NSAIDs block the hormones that keep kidney blood vessels open. Combining them with high calcium levels essentially choked off the kidneys' blood supply from two different angles.
• The Synthroid (Levothyroxine): Having a thyroid hormone dosage that is too high (hyperthyroidism) accelerates bone turnover, causing your bones to release even more calcium into your blood. This dangerously high calcium level made me go into kidney failure and I didn't even know it. If I had not had that routine Dr apt and blood work, I would have been a goner! I hope reading what I went through will encourage you to make that routine Dr apt! My kidneys have a lot of healing to do but I'm on the mend. I want to thank everyone that checked up on me! The phone calls, text, hospital visits, dinners, gifts, flowers, snacks, facials and laughs. A really special thanks to the nurses that became my friends and kept me entertained! Facebook family I need your help! My neighbor found this beautiful silver lab on George Bush Turnpike on 04/23 in Grand Prairie/Arlington. He has a collar but no tag and not chipped. I feel like he might have fallen out of a truck. My neighbor Brice missed the concert he was going to, to save the dog. He is very healthy, trained and definitely missing his family.
