Took my daughter to meet Dav Pilkey, author/illustrator of books like Dog Man and Captain Underpants, last weekend and loved his four keys to success: positivity, practice, persistence and purpose. Good reminder as both a writer and human, and we loved seeing him draw some of our favorite characters!

Always inspiring to hear from the authors at the @hooverpubliclibrary’s Southern Voices!

“I decided I was going to double down on gratitude. I was just going to be grateful to spend my life thinking about the thing I love to think about, which was stories.” @katherinecenter author of books like “The Love Hater”

“In writing fiction, I’m out in search of the story. Instead of tracking down clues and following leads and doing research, I’m researching my own imagination for the story.” @hankpryan author of books like “All This Could Be Yours”

“There is nothing more magical than being read to as a child.” @ariel.lawhon author of books like “The Frozen River”

“Write what you’re afraid of.” @melizaabbott, author of books like El Dorado Drive

“There are no two people who read the same book.” @robertgwaltneyjr author of “The Cicada Tree”

“The series wouldn’t exist without the South. She’s baked into every page.” @lindyryanwrites author of cozy horror books like the “Bless Your Heart” series

“I always wanted to tell stories.” Rickey Fayne, author of “The Devil Three Times”

Get ready to question your own thoughts—and definitely the MC’s—through the twists and turns in this locked-room thriller by @dianaurban!

The LI seems almost too good to be true (or is he), and the MC brings plenty of her own baggage (literally and figuratively) to this snowy cabin. What I enjoyed was just when you thought you had made up your mind about everything going on, Diana threw a new element or character into the mix that disrupts it all. You’ll definitely want to devour this book in a single sitting!

You’re Overthinking This comes out Nov. 19! Thanks for the ARC!

From submitting to @timesnewrachel for Pitch Wars to comping to her debut, I’ve always loved her writing style, characters and stories—and her latest book, When the Woods Called Us Home, was no exception. This haunting, atmospheric adult novel takes you to the scenic woods of the Pacific Northwest and mixes in elements of suspense, fantasy, thriller, horror (very light), romance, multi-generational POVs and witches (Rachel’s specialty). There are family curses, town secrets, a whodunnit, unique magic system, strong family ties, possible witchcraft and plenty of twists to keep you reading through the night.

She does such an amazing job of placing you in this remote world full of lovable (and not so respectable) characters, while also connecting their stories to people from the past. As someone who normally reads YA fantasy, this book was a welcomed surprise that I’d definitely recommend, especially if you’ve enjoyed her other books. It comes out early next year!

Thank you @netgalley and @atriabooks for the eARC!

One week until this stunning YA contemporary fantasy book from @dr.littlebadger and illustrated by @abigailrajunov comes out, and I can’t wait for others to meet Maisie, her family, and Owl as they navigate ghosts, loss, fantastical beings, and finding a way to stop fate from claiming another one of them! 🦉
