🎶 On a rencontré l’artiste montréalaise @liakuri chez elle, juste avant qu’elle parte en tournée avec son groupe @afternoonbikeride. Notre discussion autour de sa table à dîner arrive quelques années après la sortie de son album solo Motherland (2024) et un an après le décès de son père, atteint de démence. Lia s’est confiée à nous avec douceur, gentillesse et intelligence, et ça a été un privilège pour nous d’avoir accès à ses réflexions, alors qu’elle prépare son prochain projet solo.

I always wanted a remix project and never thought I’d be so lucky as to have @thomaswhitemtl @imanunami @vvvvalentin @heemsworth + @_hologramme re-spinning my songs and making me wanna dance so bad

much of Motherland’s sound is my ode to the underground electronic music that backdropped many uninhibited late nights at my friends’ dj sets and with these remixes, the songs get to reach back into this era and pull me there with them

my very first album Motherland came out 1 year ago today, reflecting on all that’s passed and all that’s to come i’m grateful for the community she’s helped me curate and the attentive ears that’ve given her their time — thank you for being here with me :,)

her final chapter, Motherland (Remixes) comes out Friday the 31st, Halloween, Samhain, the end of harvest season, the Celtic new year, an end to leave space for the beginnings of future sounds in the making & i look forward to diving in .𖥔 ݁ ˖

Nous sommes tellement heureuses et heureux de lancer la première live session de l’histoire de notre jeune projet. Une mise en lumière des artistes Lia Kury et Gabriella Ovilo, les deux artistes ont décidé d’interpréter Shiver de Coldplay sur le sommet des Jardins.

Merci à toute cette équipe de créatrices et créateurs incroyables qui participe à ce projet authentique et intime. L’amour et le respect régnait lors de notre laboratoire et lors de notre tournage au mois de mai dernier.

Deux autres lives sessions seront elles aussi en ligne sous peu. Une immersion dans l’univers des deux musiciennes qui collaborent avec l’artiste visuelle Shazia Ahmad. Une juxtaposition de deux médiums sur le site du Centre d’art Jardins Racine.

We are delighted to launch the first live session of our young project. Along with Lia Kury and Gabriella Ovilo, the two artists decided to perform Coldplay's Shiver at the top of Jardins Racine.

Thank you to this entire team of incredible creators who are participating in this authentic and intimate project. Love and respect reigned during our workshop and filming last May.

Two other live sessions will also be online soon. An immersion into the world of the two musicians collaborating with visual artist Shazia Ahmad. A juxtaposition of two mediums on the Jardins Racine Art Center site.

i lost my dad Tom two weekends ago;
for those who dont know, ive been his caretaker for the last 5 years, waging my own war on dementia

in 2021 i moved him into my tiny 2 bedroom apartment, he came to dinner parties, band practices, chalet outings, grocery runs, park hangs, concerts, hikes — we lived in every sense, i became the mother he never had and he became joy incarnated, known for waving at strangers, eating whole loaves of bread in one sitting, finger points, loud farts, cheeky smiles, an iron grip and a presence so magical he disarmed everyone we crossed

no one prepares you to meet death and i never thought we’d have so much company; at his bedside with my bandmates and my partner, the four of us crossed multiple dimensions watching on, holding his hands and squeezing each other; its the most vulnerable experience anyone can share and while its an honor, death is also terrifying, mystical and soul-wrenching, seeing the profoundness of that finality changes you forever— and then you remember you ordered chinese takeout an hour ago and while eating around dad’s earthly form, you suddenly all start laughing again realizing how this send off is exactly of Tom’s taste

im still digesting everything, the accumulation of decisions ive made for my dad’s well-being, what i learned im capable of, the opportunity for closeness with those around me, the gift of memories ill cherish forever, the ‘why did this happen to us’, the gratitude for such intimacy with my dad, the guttural ache knowing hes not on this earth anymore — when i was a kid and i made a mistake, my dad never scolded me, he just simply asked ‘what did you learn?’ he was a lifelong learner and i am too, ill probably never finish learning from this experience because life IS the lesson and this is life— beautiful & treacherous, unpredictable & exciting, heartbreaking & full of love, infinite and abundant … by @liakuri
