I didn’t expect it at all when I first went to Salvo’s house one evening for dinner and saw his place for the first time.
I was immediately inspired by the space.
The high ceilings.
The big, open rooms that somehow felt spacious but also strangely claustrophobic at the same time.
Something about it stayed in my head.
But I think the real idea came from something that had already been sitting somewhere in my chest for a while.
A feeling that I honestly can’t tell when it started, because in the end I think we carry it around with us most of the time without realising it.
Life slowly shifts as the days pass.
And naturally we shift with it.
Until one day you stop for a moment and realise you’re not exactly the same person you used to be.
And you start asking yourself questions.
Where am I going?
Who am I becoming?
Who have I already become?
It’s a strange feeling not fully recognising yourself in the moment you’re living.
It’s something we all go through.
Not just once, but many times throughout life.
So i decided to develop this idea I felt strongly about and thought maybe this film is just my way of sitting with that feeling for a moment.
Of not trying to escape it or answer it. Showing it with images that can take meaning and shape for every person in their own way, for every person to feel once again what they felt in these moments of uncertainty, being vulnerable, powerless and accepting it, as a part of who we are.
Realize that we exist in that strange space in between,
in between who we were, who we are and who we are becoming.
Much of it lies in embracing the uncertainty of life, and everything that comes with it.
