Going to give the whole rundown-going into nationals i hit 295kg very comfortably a week out and it foretold that i had something massive ready for me on the platform. 3 days out I was warming up for my top triple of 419lbs 😭and tore my thumb open on two reds. unfortunate but i’ve been in this situation before at last years nats but with a much more severe tear across my hand so i tried not to worry about it too much. come meet day it was practically healed but just a thinner layer of skin that was a bit more sensitive. i made it through squat and bench fine with minimal damage and come deadlifts i was fine all throughout my warmups. once i had hit my opener i saw my thumb tear pretty bad, worse then the original tear a few days prior. i asked my handler pat if i should tape it and he recommended to just thug it out because the tape may make it more slippery to hold onto the bar. onto my second attempt it moved fine and i had no problem with holding onto the bar. third attempt comes and there was no chance of me placing because of the lost kilos from squat and bench so i decided to chip the atpr deadlift from training and boost my total significantly. however once i got onto the platform and attempted to lift my third attempt i simply couldn’t hold onto the bar. it was pretty heartbreaking to have had such a bad day after months and months of training and dedication. i’m not making excuses/coping and im not asking for empathy, just giving transparency on the situation. i’ve conversed with many people meet and i’ve truly learned a lot for the future. i’m excited to redeem myself and show that im worthy of representing the US on the international platform. 🫡 by @liamnathangoldich
