Meet our newest team member at Sou Samba! Lia @liaverde has been assisting with front desk operations and is already such a wonderful addition to our community. Thank you Lia! Bem vindo! ************************************************** Lia’s upbringing in both the Bay Area and Brazil has given her a deep appreciation of the diaspora and its power in unity through the arts. Born into a family of capoeiristas, dancers, and musicians, Lia has spent her life in these spaces and is now exploring her individuality within them. She is currently a student in UC Berkeley’s school of Public Health and is committed to working towards health equity that incorporates more than just absence of disease. She has found that dance promotes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness and sees it as an ancestral point of reference for survival. by @liaverde

✨Chola’s Celebration of Life Post✨She loved getting pets from anyone and everyone, laying in the sun, chin scratches, and chicken. She hated her cute bird costume, having to wear the cone of shame, and never getting her breakfast promptly at 5am. She was rescued from the Paradise fires 4 years ago after her previous owners died and I’m so glad we found each other. She was the sweetest kitty and brought so much love and affection to our family. She was always down to hang, a true ride or die. Thankfully she had a great last few days. Thanks to everyone for loving on baby girl 🤍 by @liaverde

This week I’ve been through a rollercoaster of emotions. I’ve felt numb, paralyzed, I’ve cried, screamed, smiled, laughed, danced. Approaching the 23rd anniversary of my birth, I started to go down a deep spiral into black birth and death. What it means to maybe bring a black life into this fucked up world. How many black women lose their lives bringing their babies into it. How many black babies end up being buried by their mamas. All the trauma. I was starting to give up. But what I concluded after digging myself out that hole is that WE ARE SO WORTH IT. WE ARE WORTH LIVING. WE ARE WORTH FIGHTING FOR. WE ARE BEAUTIFUL AND CAPABLE. I am surrounded by so much love in all ages, shapes, shades and forms. As a black woman I managed to cultivate all that. I am worth it. All this uprising is grief and anger but those come from love for ourselves and our own. I love endlessly and will continue to do so without fear. A luta continua. The struggle continues. Gratidão. by @liaverde
