Draft from my trip- im gonna try to post about every country i went to! 🥰

I spent the entire month of October in Portugal. She holds a very very special place in my heart. I worked at a guest house for a week @rei.wamba_guesthouse and then at a hostel right in Lisbon for 3 weeks. @innpossiblelisbon I love you <3

I cannot describe the experience I had here. I got so so lucky because I signed up for the volunteer work before ever coming and it ended up being my favorite country and Lisbon being my favorite city thus far. I am so beyond grateful to have the experience I did and meet the AMAZING humans I did here. I truly believe I made lifelong friends during this short period of time.

The FOOD, CULTURE, LIVE FUCKING MUSIC CALLED FADO IS UNREAL. I went to many bars with Fado (Portugal’s soulful live music) and bawled my eyes out each time. I might not have understood a damn word but it is the most universal language. Music is so fucking beautiful because it can connect people from all over the world without needing to speak or understand each other. I always knew this to be true, but I’d never truly experienced it like this.

UGH and the beaches, the nature, the architecture is TRULY UNMATCHED in Portugal. It is not for the weak though, the amount of stairs really does give it its character but godbless I was really missing my inhaler this month.

This is LONG overdue. I left Spain about a month ago now and am just now sitting down to post. I’m currently on my way back from the Sahara 🤯 life has been absolutely unreal and so beautiful. All I feel is gratefulness for my experiences and the people I meet. I love traveling and I don’t ever want to stop. If you only take one thing from my posts, please let it be to TRAVEL. Life is long and somehow short at the same time. You don’t want to look back regretting not seeing the world. The mundane problems and “big” life decisions we have right now are so irrelevant compared to the vast amount of options, places, people, and opportunities that are waiting for us. Please don’t settle in your life. Do what you want, but also see some shit. It’s such good shit.

I wrote this while I was staying there:

WHY I DECIDED TO TRAVEL^^
Also HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAKAYLA!!!!
Life is so fucking special and so many people just live without purpose, without joy, without love. Don’t be that person. If you’re not happy, change your life. It’s scary but my god it is worth it. I have genuinely never been happier, even though I’m alone, even though I am scared. I’m happy. I owe everything to grief and I couldn’t imagine myself before this turmoil. Finding the good in the bad sounds cliche but it’s the only way to get through hard things. Do hard things! Accept change! Become your potential. Stop being comfortable. Routine is the worst thing and keeps you dormant. Be an individual. Genuinely do what YOU want to do. Don’t be afraid:) it’s so unbelievably worth it!!!!

Marseille is probably my favorite city I’ve been to in France. She deserves her own post. I booked 2 nights in a hostel but only slept in my bed once. Not being able to feel tired because of how much adrenaline ran through these streets and into me. Traveling solo is so funny because I literally wasn’t alone once this weekend. The community between other travelers is SO vibrant and kind.

It was also a weekend of unforgettable firsts: my first time seeing the MEDITERRANEAN, first time spotting islands on the horizon, my first bar crawl, and my first tattoo in Europe 🙂‍↔️

Like many big cities, it faces challenges with poverty and gang violence. After all this is the OLDEST (and second largest) CITY IN FRANCE. Founded by Greek settlers around 600 BCE and is known for its rich trading hub due to the connection to Africa and the East of Europe (DOPE ASF)! But reducing Marseille to its crime would minimize the culture and the people who make it as special as it is. I feel so incredibly grateful to have experienced even a small piece of this huge city.

GUYS!!! My first Worldpackers experience was incredible. I need to first say something about traveling and especially about being a tourist- glamorizing people’s live actually isn’t cool and it’s very important to learn about the country’s politics, culture, and history. I have been a damn sponge soaking up everything I can about France and the locals way of life. When traveling you cannot just take but also give- which is why I have loved Worldpackers because it has given me the opportunity to learn but also help people who live here. I just busted my ass on a farm for three weeks learning about permaculture and how food can be made while still respecting our earth. Traveling is SO rewarding but also very challenging and I’m not here to pretend it’s been easy every step of the way. Hahah I’ve cried on the street for missing buses - everything has been a learning curve especially because the US has a huge lack of public transportation and I’ve never really used it before. But don’t let me discourage yall, this experience has already changed my life. My world is expanding faster than it ever has and my mind with it. The stereotypes Americans have are WRONG. When I told my family I was going to travel I was hit with comments like “you’re going to die” or “you’re going to be kidnapped and trafficked.” Every country has good parts and bad parts and you just have to be smart enough to stay in the good ones.

FUN FACTS: St Rémy was actually where Van Gogh painted many of his works!! I tried a local drink called pastis that he also drank a lot 😏 also the original Vatican City was in Avignon!! :0 taken in Southern France by @libbyk27

I hope you guys enjoy the posts coming these next few months. I plan to break down how I’m affording this and what the hell got me here. I don’t have a return flight yet and I don’t know exactly when that’ll be. Life is happening all around us and I must see it. If you have questions or want to do something similar, lmk and I’ll give you a push in the right direction :))

I just spent the weekend in Paris, staying in a hostel for the first time!! I did just visit England before coming to France, but I was staying with family (fortunately). And now my solo trip has truly begun. I am writing this on my train to South France where I will be doing a work exchange on a farm for 3 weeks- WorldPackers is the site I used to book my stay and it is an incredible resource for people looking to do what I’m doing!

The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon admissions every year.
It takes over 700 gallons of water to produce ONE cotton shirt.
The United States ALONE discards 11 millions tons of clothing to our landfills every year. 🤮

Gotta love shopping but you do NOT have to contribute to destroying our planet! You can find inexpensive, beautiful clothing anywhere; yard sales, goodwill ofc, thrift/antique stores, Salvation Army, Mission 27 (Indy based), estate sales, flea markets, online (Depop, Poshmark, Facebook marketplace).

Options are everywhere!!
