Fashion Design at the Dalí 2023-2024!

This is my third year in the program and our theme this year was “Animal”. I chose ‘vulture’ as my animal and had so much fun designing an outfit which would align with Dalí’s symbolism in “Portrait of My Dead Brother” (1963) and some of my own techniques. I pushed myself to go further this year by experimenting with unconventional materials and methods in order to showcase surreal ideas that Dalí always broke barriers with. By incorporating punch-needling, crochet, and embroidery, I was able to bring what I love most into my outfit: fiber art.

I first want to say thank you to @dalimuseum for putting on this amazing program every year. It has given me so many opportunities to grow as an artist and I feel so lucky to be apart of a community that supports one another. I am forever grateful ❤️

I next want to say thank you to Sumaya for creating such a supportive and inspiring community. I always look forward to coming Sunday morning to catch up with fellow designers and continue development for my design. I always feel like I can ask questions and express myself when I am at the PCCA. I am forever grateful for you. 💛

And Ms.Donnelly, thank you for showing me the ropes when I first entered the program. I don’t think my love for fashion or style would have gone anywhere without you. Not only did I learn how to use patterns, but how to make my own patterns because of the amazing instruction given by you. Again, I am forever thankful for you. 💛

Thank you to my model, @ruby_mccandless , for supporting my ideas and designs. Your patience has not gone unnoticed. You are such an amazing model and friend. 💚

This year there were 10 awards and 2 new awards given out and I received the award for best overall. I still don’t think I can fully comprehend it. Every single design in the program was incredible and so creative. It was so exciting to see friends go up and collect awards on stage.

If anyone is reading this during a time where you are struggling creatively, please remember to always believe in yourself. You can go so far by just giving your best. You’re probably doing better than you think.
