Would you upload your company's customer database to ChatGPT?

Most people would probably say no.

But what if it was a spreadsheet you needed to analyse quickly?

That's essentially how a real data privacy incident in Australia unfolded in 2025.

A contractor uploaded personal information belonging to 2,031 people into ChatGPT.

Names. Phone numbers. Addresses. Health information.

No malicious hacker.
No sophisticated attack.

Just AI being used to get work done.

And that's what makes the incident worth paying attention to.

The question isn't only:

“Can AI help me?”

It's also:

“What am I giving it access to?”

And at the end of the day, one lesson stands, keep confidential things confidential.

You know the tools.
You know the terminology.
You can follow the conversation.

“Why does this work?”

Knowing how to use something isn't the same as understanding it.

And that's not a failure.

Pretending you understand when you don't is.

So this week, pick one thing you don't fully understand.

Don't just watch another tutorial.

Go one layer deeper.

Build something.
Break it.
Inspect what happens.
Then explain it in your own words.

You don't need to understand everything.

Just understand something better than you did yesterday.
