During an intimate, closed-door session at the 2026 @concordiasummit, @centerforbrainhealth researcher and clinical psychologist Dr. Ian Robertson met with a group of rising global leaders in partnership with @libraphilanthropies

As these young adults prepare for major life transitions, from launching academic careers to stepping onto the global stage, Dr. Robertson shared practical, neuroscientific insights from his book, How Confidence Works: The New Science of Self-belief.

"Confidence is a bridge that crosses to the future, and confidence is the fuel that gets you over that bridge. It is not an internal attribute you are simply born with; confidence is a set of habits developed over time."

Ian left the room with a few key takeaways for next-generation leaders

Feeling in charge of your own mind, emotions, and thoughts is a prerequisite for feeling in charge of your future.

Simple practices like intentional, slow breathing chemically regulate noradrenaline levels in the brain, helping you regain focus and calm under pressure.
Waiting for 100% certainty before taking action leads to avoidance. Action in spite of anxiety triggers the brain's "winner effect," building exponential confidence.
While self-esteem is focused on ego, true confidence is tied to action, adaptability, and learning from failure.

This week, our five incredible young changemakers and alumni are representing The Diana Award at one of the world's biggest global gatherings alongside leaders, innovators and decision-makers.

From speaking on the Concordia stage to taking part in the Conversations for Change Learning Lab with @libraphilanthropies, and meeting with @undp4youth on the sidelines of #UNGA81, Arthur, Kupakwashe, Nebiyou, Olivia and Oyinda have been making the most of every opportunity to connect, learn and amplify youth voices.

🌍 Applications are officially OPEN for the 2027 Climate Cohort!

Part of Rising Global Leaders' Changemakers Pathway, this 9-month hybrid leadership journey is for young climate leaders (ages 20–35) already doing the work — whether that's running a grassroots initiative, playing a key role in a climate org, or leading community-based efforts.

Over 9 months (Jan–Sept 2027), cohort members will dig into three guiding themes — understanding the climate system, local adaptation & community resilience, and turning participation into real influence — while gaining:

✅ Expert-led workshops
✅ 1:1 mentorship
✅ Reflection circles
✅ 3 in-person convenings
✅ Capacity-building sessions
✅ Peer exchange & network access

📋 Eligible initiatives should have 1+ year of operating history, be nonpartisan, and preferably run on a budget under $500K.

Together with @dianaaward and @LibraPhilanthropies, and in partnership with @SamsungMobile, we’ll bring together young leaders and partners to exchange perspectives, share experiences, and explore how we can better support youth-led impact.
