Get to know the reader 🩷

It's been a while since I made an introduction post, and now that there's 500 (!!!) of you here, I thought I'd do it again 🫶🏼

My name is Anya, I'm 27 and I work as a UX designer. I'm Russian, but I lived most of my life in Slovenia, where I currently live. I also spent a semester in Belgium and did my masters in The Netherlands. In my free time I enjoy going on walks, listening to music, painting, travelling, going to concerts, and reading of course :)

I've been a reader for as long as I can remember. I read pretty much all the books in my middle school library and all the YA that was big on Tumblr in high school. Towards the end of my bachelors I got into a bit of a slump, since YA didn't interest me as much anymore, but I didn't know where to even begin looking for recs in other genres. So when I moved to Utrecht I started going to bookstores and buying whatever looked interesting with no outside opinion, and found a lot of books I love that way. And now I'm trying to catch up with everything that got popular online lol

I'm mainly a fantasy reader and I'm especially drawn to anything on the more whimsical and/or weird side, but I love a high fantasy as well. I also get easily bored of the same vibes/tropes/genres, so I try to put a lot of variety on my tbr. I put some of my favorite books in the post, as well as my fav tv shows and albums.

Let me know if we have anything in common!! ✨ by @libraryofanya

Atmosphere - Taylor Jenkins Reid

⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have to be honest this one didn’t reach my expectations! I wasn’t too emotional even when really emotional moments were happening. But maybe I just watched/read too many space things in a row, idk. The main emotion I was feeling was anger towards Barbara lmao. Still, this is not a bad book at all, just not my favorite by TJR!

Have you read Atmosphere yet? Did it live up to the hype for you? Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid book cover. Historical fiction about space exploration, Taylor Jenkins Reid latest book, contemporary fiction review, TJR books ranked, book recommendations for fans of Daisy Jones and Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. taken in BOOKSTA by @libraryofanya

Star Shipped - Cat Sebastian

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This is an enemies to lovers romance between actors playing shipped characters on a sci-fi show. I’ve always wondered what it’s like to work on a tv show set, so the setting was very cool!

The reading experience was actually at times kinda bad because of HOW GODDAMN RELATABLE the portrayal of Simon’s anxiety was…. like….. I do not need to be reminded of how that feels like ty!! But in all seriousness it’s written very well & it simply really sucks to feel like that.

Overall didn’t connect with the characters as much as I did in You Should Be So Lucky and We Could Be So Good, those are still my faves out of Cat Sebastian books <3 Nevertheless it’s worth a read!

Q: What is your favorite enemies to lovers romance? Star Shipped by Cat Sebastian book cover. Contemporary queer romance, enemies to lovers, MM romance about actors on sci-fi show. Book review featuring anxiety representation, LGBTQ romance recommendations, Cat Sebastian books. taken in BOOKSTA by @libraryofanya

Book picnic tag 🧺

I saw @serbanacht.reads do this and thought it was sooo cute! Now that it’s sunny outside you can catch me by the river with a book and farmers market strawberries every Sunday 🙂‍↕️ Also ik I came out as a matcha hater last week, but I had to try the strawberry one. Verdict: kind of tastes like nothing, which is better than grass!

📍where: Roadside Picnic. Works too perfectly

⏰️ what time: Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil. A picnic under the stars >>>

🌡what's the weather like: One Golden Summer. Perfect summer weather 🙂‍↕️

🍓what are we eating: Legends and Lattes. Let’s pretend that a latte is a meal bcs my only other option was Bunny…

🎸what are we listening to: The Song of Achilles, oof

💃who's joining us: Dream on Ramona Riley. There’s a picnic on the cover, duh!

If you see this, consider yourself tagged :)

Q: do you like reading outside? Book picnic flat lay featuring Roadside Picnic, Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil, One Golden Summer, Legends and Lattes, The Song of Achilles, and Dream on Ramona Riley arranged on picnic blanket with strawberries and matcha latte. Outdoor reading aesthetic, summer bookstagram photography, book recommendations for picnic reading. taken in Ljubljana, Slovenia by @libraryofanya

Matcha book tag 🍵

The lovely @fictionwithmarlene tagged me in this!!! 🫶🏻 Though I have to say I'm a matcha hater, to me it tastes like grass 😭 So I'm using an ancient picture with my actual order of chai latte in the foreground lol

☕️ Matcha latte - go to drinks while reading

English breakfast, herbal tea, coffee, water

🍪 Matcha cookie - a hyped book that fell short

Everyone really hyped up Atmosphere for me, I liked it but it's not my favorite TJR book!

🍦 Matcha ice cream - a book currently sitting on your nightstand
Monday Begins on Saturday by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky! Long overdue tbh

🍓 Strawberry matcha - top 3 romantasy couples
Herongraystairs don’t make me pick (The Infernal Devices)
Emily and Wendell (Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faeires)
Ishtvan and Clara (Paladin's Strength)

🍰 Matcha roll cake - favorite special edition you own

I don’t own a ton of special editions, the only one I spent a lot of money on is AFTG. The og covers are so bad that it’s absolutely worth the money lol

I tagged a few friends but ofc feel free to do this if you want to! :)

All Fours - Miranda July

Lately I've read so many books that made me thank GOD I have a good therapist, this is one of them. I loved the writing style, hated the reading experience. At the start I enjoyed getting a look into the main character's psyche and I really felt for her situation, but the longer her crazy ass choices and complete lack of self awareness went on, the more I wanted out...

There is lot to discuss here thematically and symbolically, but also a lot of words and word combinations and sentences that I wish I never laid my eyes upon and I fr hated the author for making me experience them 😭 The only reason I didn't dnf is because it was a book club read...

Again, technically the writing is very good & it touches upon a lot of themes we need more books about. But I still didn't enjoy my time reading it.

Books + expectations!! ⭐️

This was fun to put together but also pretty hard because I genuinely often go into a book with 0 expectations!

5 star book tag!! ⭐️

Q: How many five star books have you read this year?

This was such a fun tag to put together! Though this year I'm not having the best of luck picking books - so far my only 5 star reads were Beach Read by Emily Henry and How to Fake It in Society by KJ Charles. I'm reading Dungeon Crawler Carl right now and tbh I'm struggling 😭 but I also don't want to dnf! On the bright side, I'm going to see Project Hail Mary today and I've rewatched the new Bridgerton teaser like 10 times lets goooo

Have you read these books? Do you agree with my takes? lmk! 🫶🏻 taken in BOOKSTA by @libraryofanya
