Just like I say with every Brighton Walsh book, I have a new favorite.

Maverick shows up to town to confront his deadbeat father that he has never met, and realizes he has four half-brothers (who are very sus on him) and that the woman he had one incredible night with…is treated like a sister to them. Queue the sneaking around and forced proximity…insert grinch smile.

The sexual tension, the emotional connection, the back and forth banter; Rowan and Maverick together was fire. The interactions between Rowan’s boys and Maverick was just so heartwarming. Add in the struggles of single parenting, grief, found family, and the small town antics of Mable, I couldn’t put this one down.

And listening was the way to go. James Cassidy could read the phone book to me, and his counterpart Rose Dioro matched the Rowan’s energy so well.

Lastly…please please tell me that the epilogue meant we get a new series with the next generation. PLEASE I need more.

You say kraken, I say….say less. This is a quick little novella, but it was very satisfying.

Marisol is attempting to jump into a whirlpool, trying to get a wish granted. But…it’s not really that easy, and Neo, the kraken, ends up saving her. Because whomp she’s his mate. He’s smitten immediately, and Marisol, while human, definitely is feeling the mate bond.

While short, there was quite a bit packed into the story. A full plot line, some steam (hellooooooooo tentacles), some relationship progression. I would happily read more in this universe!

Thank you to @williammorrowbooks for the gifted book.

I first read My Killer Vacation by @tessabaileyisanauthor when it was first released in 2022, and I loved it. When it was re-released (with a new cover and everything!), I felt like it was the perfect time for a reread.

And 10/10 no notes, just a ridiculously fun time. Here’s my OG review!

Sometimes you just need a Tessa Bailey story to break your losing-read streak.

My Killer Vacation features the dirty talking that Tessa Bailey is so great at and has one of my favorite tropes: grumpy/sunshine. The sparks between Taylor and Myles are legitimately on fire. Myles is such a lovable, protective grump. He wants to simultaneously wrap Taylor in bubble wrap while also spanking and punishing her for being a bad girl.

Ohhhh yessssss.

Throw in a murder mystery, and I’m sold. Is My Killer Vacation a little campy and over-the-top ridiculous? Don’t care. Tessa Bailey always delivers and makes my heart happy.

Peg and Rose Deck the Halls by Laurien Berenson

Sometimes you just need a murder mystery featuring some grumpy old ladies.

Peg and Rose are in-laws that have reluctantly repaired their relationship, enough to team up and solve some murders. This current murder is pretty close to Peg, a rival in her dog kennel club. Side note, as a cat lady, I have forgotten how crazy some dog lovers can be. But if I took nothing else away from this book, I learned about a bunch of different dog breeds!

The pacing was great, I felt like I was uncovering the clues with Rose and Peg, never knowing who to suspect next (although I did have an inkling!). This was a fun and cozy mystery and made me want to go back and read more about these two!

Tell me how a book about butt Covid gave me so many feelings!

Doomsdate is such an interesting storyline. Maisie has been talking to Everett on a dating app before they go on a date, right at the beginning of a new viral pandemic. The issues begin with a) Maisie was raised by a schizophrenic doomsday prepper and has a significant lack of social skills and b) Everett wasn’t chatting with her, his best friend was; trying to force Everett out of his misery, after his wife passed three years ago.

But the virus turns everyone into zombies, so the story turns into survival situation which is at times hilarious, anxiety-inducing, and trauma bond-worthy.

I laughed, I smiled, I literally sobbed. Doomsdate was perfection, and I think the narration added to my enjoyment. 10/10, no notes, Hathaway Lee and PG Hammock were so amazing at the comedic timing, the emotional expression, and the chemistry.

Laura Piper Lee has cemented herself as an auto-read author for me.

Have I mentioned how captivated I am by this series? Well…I am. Desperately.

This man—THIS MAN—sees Sylvie’s face (partially covered by a mask!!) and uses all his skills (and his memory of seeing her ONCE!) to track her down. Can we say obsessed?? A cat burglar and a man who performs sleight of hand tricks and will steal your wallet, it’ a match made in heaven.

I love how vulnerable they both become, sharing their pasts and hurts, and oh the spice. Cash is so persistent in showing Sylvie how they are meant to be together, but they form a true friendship and relationship before the chemistry kicks in.

The two are narrated by Connor Crais and Samatha Brentmoor and it was perfection, 10/10, no notes. They both did such a great job differentiating all the characters—because YOU KNOW the rest of the Noires have to make an appearance. The found family that has formed between them all is just the cherry on top.

Jax is the last sibling, and I’m not sure I’m ready for the series to end.

Two characters sharing the same body (giggity) is not something you read about normally, but I knew if anyone could pull it off, it would be Sarah.

Iris is our final witch in this series, and she’s seen her two best friends find their soulmate. Welp, she finally finds hers, and it’s an ancient being (a vampire slayer actually) possessing the body of a human man. But the human man, Adam, is still mentally there. Ergo…there’s a bit of a throuple situation going on.

It’s quick-paced, with a lot of witchy action happening. But throughout it all, Iris starts forming relationships with both Slayer and Adam, while the two men become friends of a sort. Despite the fated mate-ness of their story, it felt like each of them really tried to understand and learn the others. And the sex lessons? Top tier.

And once again, the familiar is the best character, and I will forever be sad I don’t have one.

I am loving that why choose romance has infiltrated the traditional publishing space. Finally, my time is here.

Hallowed Bones was basically exactly what I want in a why choose paranormal romance.

🖤four MMCs that all have individuality
🖤but of course one of them is broody and angsty
🖤witty banter with plenty of bickering (which you know is ✨chemistry✨)
🖤a FMC thrown into some suspense or peril
🖤something spooky, witches and magic in this case
🖤a cliffhanger that makes me realize I don’t have the willpower to wait for the next book

All in all, I had a great time and I’m already looking forward to my reread to refresh my memory before the next book releases.

I had a fun time with the first in the series, Fake it ‘Til Christmas, which is Soren’s story, our FMC Daisy’s brother. This one revisits the small town feud, with another Wolfcraft and Thorn teaming up and fake dating.

But we all know that fake dating never stays fake, right? Daisy and Forrest are reluctant…friends? Acquaintances? Employee and customer? in Boston before they both end up needing a fake date in their home town. Long story short…Forrest fell hard, he just hadn’t realized it yet.

I love Forrest, how he stood up for Daisy, quietly watching out for her and being a grumpy, protective sentinel. And thank god Daisy finally slowed down enough to see what she had been missing.

Overall, a quick and enjoyable holiday rom com!

Harbinger was an interesting story line.

Arden is expecting her boring, safe farming-themed magic to come after a very public ritual, but instead she is marked with a forbidden magic, and is now considered cursed, an omen, a harbinger of war. And everyone wants to kill her. The king’s top security, Bishop, is the only one she can trust, as he safely hides her away, but he has secrets of his own.

Arden was a very relatable character. She’s thrown into something she never prepared for, and at times, she wants to give up, or push forward, or to punish anyone to make herself feel better. The push and pull between her and Bishop was so real, despite their feelings towards each other, there felt like so much was happening, I don’t blame them for being hesitant.

But oh, how Bishop yearns. Such a quiet, constant, protective man.

The pacing was a bit slow for me at the beginning, but once a certain event happened (RIP I cried my eyes out), I was all locked in. There were so many twists and turns near the end, I was flummoxed and on the edge of my seat. And now I’m left needing more.
