“Botanic” 2024

Furnace Glass Sculpture

Plant sculptures are an idea I’ve been developing for a while. I want to create these sculptures that represent still life and the way we bring natural objects indoors. This Aloe Vera is the first iteration. A version of a house plant that doesn’t outgrow its space or lose its color.

“Mittens” 2023

Furnace glass sculpture

Since I was a toddler I have learned to ski and snowboard at @themtbakerskiarea, and into my adulthood working for the ski area for a number of seasons. I built a close relationship with the Mount Baker wilderness and the community that loves the mountains as much as I do. I have wanted to make a sculpture inspired by my second home. Thanks to @boardworkstechshop the direction was clear when presented with their annual Kinco Art show.

Working in the studio with @kellyofthedell I’ve gotten the chance to first learn how to blow and sculpt glass. I’ve also been able to capture a few moments of her artist process in the hot shop at @calderaglass and in 2024 in Biot France during her residency at Centre Du Verre Contemporain. And now these three photos have been pulled off my SD card and are now on display in South Korea at @cicamuseum taken in CICA Museum by @lichenj

Continuing with more of these Aloe Vera forms. I have been trying to explore more ways to bring these leaves more to life with color application and the movement they have when they are assembled.
