This photo is one my favorites, it is one of my early work from the time I decided to explore art photography more seriously. This was part of a series I called The Spirit of Color. I wanted to do a red themed editorial, and I thought of my friend Jen immediately. She & I have done a few collaborations by then and I always loved the creative synergy we had. We always love to explore themes of the divine feminine, echoes of the goddess manifesting in different forms. She showed UP that day, fully embodying the energy of red , fully clothed like a goddess of the ginger flower.

It is so exciting to see it in print, and especially in my favorite magazine @clammag ! Thanks to Andy who saw it and said, “yes that’s the one!”, so it was TIME to share this with the world ❤️🐦‍🔥

Thank you @clammag for the feature! Shout out to my friend Andy, the visionary behind CLAM magazine. You are such a giver, selflessly elevating others with everything you do! I don’t know any other artists at your level that also care to give back, to focus on building a global art community like you do. I see you, honor & celebrate you 🙏👏

I’m so grateful to have been part of the CLAM magazine family for years now and being able to share my photography in this issue again. THANK YOU!

#clammag #localeverywhere #press #editorial #photographer Lichiban new CLAM issue themed “TIME”. This issue has a special place in my heart, as it is not only my favorite magazine but it’s also a dear friend of mine, Andy Amadi Okoroafor’s very personal art magazine series that he’s been running since the late 90s. It’s always showcased the most beautiful & diverse collection of creatives from all over the world - it’s the only magazine that will have artists from Nigeria, Japan, South Africa, Thailand, Columbia, France, Hungary, Brazil, United States taken in Paris, France by @lichiban

There is a moment at Bali EcoStay when you realize the herbs in your morning juice were growing in the ground twenty metres from where you’re sitting. 🌿

Bali EcoStay was not built as a resort that happens to have a garden. It is a working permaculture ecosystem — a living, breathing food system set on volcanic Tabanan soil, 480 metres above sea level, powered by a private waterfall, drinking from its own mountain streams, growing what it feeds you and composting what remains. Chemical-free vanilla and cacao from their own garden. Pasture-raised chickens. Freshwater fish from local organic farms. Lemongrass, galangal, turmeric, and kaffir lime harvested that morning, handed to you still smelling of the earth.

This is what off-grid means when it is done with full conviction — not as an aesthetic, not as a brand position, but as a genuine relationship between the people who tend the land and the land that feeds them back.

And then the love and TLC that goes into preparing every single dish. Truly an unforgettable experience ✨🫶🙏

WOODCARVING with Kadek at Bali Eco Stay’s permaculture farm.

When Kadek asked us what we wanted to put on the wood, we asked him to draw a hybrid creature. He immediately said ‘ ok let’s do Gajah Mina!’

The Gajah Mina (The Elephant-Fish)
In Balinese and broader Indonesian folklore, there is a legendary sea creature called the Gajah Mina (sometimes spelled Gadjamina). The name comes from Sanskrit, combining Gajah (elephant) and Mina (fish).

It is depicted as a mythical marine creature with the head of an elephant and the body or tail of a fish (somewhat like a Hindu counterpart to a mermaid or a sea-monster variant of Ganesha).

Because he combines the immense strength of a land animal (the elephant) with the domain of the sea (the fish), he represents the raw, overwhelming power of the ocean and rules over deep waters.

Kadek, who comes from a family of wood carvers, created this amazing piece under 2 hours (including our help). This was one of my favorite memorabilia from Bali, reminding me of my days when I used to make art on wood panels.

I was always drawn to traditional art making and traveling just made me fall in love with the art made with hands and soul passed down through generations of visionary artists. Bali is one of those places keeping human imagination & craftsmanship alive - no AI can replace this.

Ask for the activities when you’re staying at Bali Eco Stay’s! This is an unforgettable experience✨

#Virgoszn ♍️Another year around the 🌞. This past 12 months have been deeply life changing.
Met & spent time with some amazing people, some I didn’t share a common tongue with but understood on the heart level. Seen some of the most breathtakingly beautiful places on this planet. Got more clarity about my purpose (shoutout to my fav book on the topic ‘What is My Why’ by my King @bijanmachen & also for his constant support in getting me more refined about my mission)

I’m grateful for everyone in my life - near & far. Being away made me appreciate more of the relationships I built around the world.

It’s a never ending story.💓✨

I highly recommend Bali Eco Stay for anyone who wants to be “nurtured by nature”, to immerse themselves in the wilderness of Central Bali, one of the most beautiful places on Earth… you can eat pure, organic, farm-to-table food grown on their land (permaculture), walk 2 mins to a waterfall and learn Balinese cuisine & crafts from the amazing staff that’s like a big family.

In the Harvest bungalow, each bedroom has its own artfully made natural stone bathroom— semi open-air, walls of volcanic stone rising to an open skylight where the Tabanan sky comes in entirely welcome. Ferns and orchids frame the shower on either side, the water comes from the purest mountain source from the land, and from the soap to the lotions, everything is clean, all-natural, locally made, and smells amazing. Every detail is considered, intentional.

We have stood in a lot of beautiful bathrooms- a great bathroom is non-negotiable for us when we choose our next booking. This one, we’ll never forget.

Travel changes you on the dna level.

When you travel and really slow down to experience a place, you get to meet a new version of you. Every place is a new mirror letting you discover hidden parts of yourself you forgot, or weren’t even aware of. Your shadows illuminated in ways that you can recognize & dispel them in an instant.
Your concept of others and yourself shifts, as you realize how beautiful your connection is to people, nature, every conscious being on this planet - the core rooted in oneness, while the branches expressing themselves in the most unique & creative ways.

In this new era, travel will be one of our ways of safeguarding our connection to nature & to each other’s cultures & our human values. Our bodies need the grounding from the trees & the soil, and our soul from the genuine love that we cultivate on our journeys. For ourselves & all the ways God chooses to express itself through people, creatures, and wild and beautiful places. Our planet is a living library of culture: ancestral knowledge, human creativity, nature’s intelligence, animal wisdom - all have a place in the divine plan. If you feel the call to love & protect it is because it’s calling you💚

Before Bali had concrete, it had bamboo — and the most architecturally loyal properties on the island never forgot that. 🌿

Black bamboo (Gigantochloa atroviolacea) is one of nature’s more extraordinary building materials: stronger than most hardwoods, flexible enough to withstand the island’s tropical storms, carbon-negative in its growth cycle, and — as it ages — more beautiful, its dark culms deepening in colour the longer they stand. It grows back faster than it can be harvested. It requires no factory, no kiln, no chemical treatment. It is, in the most literal sense, a material that gives more than it takes.

In Balinese architecture, bamboo is not a budget choice or a rustic gesture. It is a philosophical one — the decision to build with the land rather than over it, to let the breeze through rather than seal it out, to create structures that, when their time is done, return to the earth.

The Bali hotel that nature lovers have been quietly keeping to themselves. 🌿

Bali EcoStay sits at 480 metres above sea level in the mountains of Tabanan — a Bali from another era, where the air is clean enough for fireflies and the electricity comes from a private waterfall on the property. Their Harvest Bungalow (the largest on their land) is built almost entirely from black bamboo, left open to the mountain breeze, oriented toward rice terraces that stretch to the jungle hill behind them.

Two bedrooms. Two bathrooms. A semi-outdoor stone bathroom under an open skylight. And outside — rice fields below, dense jungle above, the river the loudest thing for miles.

A place that invites you back to yourself. A place where you realize that true luxury is experiencing a piece of eden - where the water flowing from the earth is still pure, the food is grown on the land with love, and the air is pristine.

No audio in the world prepares you for hearing Gamelan live — for the first time, in the middle of a Balinese rice field, at sunset.

We had the extraordinary privilege of a private performance by the Amertha Budaya Shanti Gamelan Ensemble at Bali EcoStay in Blimbing — an eco-luxury permaculture resort tucked deep in the Tabanan regency, where the jungle and the rice fields hold the sound in a way no concert hall ever could. Deep in the jungle, it was a truly unforgettable experience surrounded by the coconut-covered slopes of Mt. Batukaru

Each gamelan ensemble is considered sacred — with players offering incense and flowers before every performance to honor the divine presence within the music. The instruments are built in pairs and tuned slightly apart, producing a shimmering, undulating sound the Balinese call “wave” — a cyclical vibration that creates something between music and frequency, between art and prayer.

In 2021, UNESCO recognised Indonesian Gamelan as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity — one of the world’s most important living musical traditions. And here we were, hearing it privately, surrounded by permaculture gardens and volcanic earth, as the sun dropped behind the rice terraces.

This is an experience you can arrange at Bali EcoStay. Some of the most unforgettable experiences aren’t the one that costs the most.
