In der Videoarbeit .psf_0219 (.Particle System Flow) beschäftigt sich Lucien Liebecke mit einer Partikelsimulation und deren verschiedenen Darstellungssystemen im zwei- sowie dreidimensionalen Raum. Dabei versucht er, deren Bedingungen zu analysieren, herauszustellen und miteinander in Verbindungen zu setzen.

So entsteht die Farbigkeit der Partikel im Video allein durch ihre physikalischen Gegebenheiten. Je schneller ein Partikel wird, desto roter ist er, bzw. je stärker er abgebremst wird, desto blauer. Gleichzeitig spielt aber auch die Dichte der Partikel (ihre Nähe zueinander) für die Farbgebung und für die Diagramme im Video eine entscheidende Rolle. Der Sound orientiert sich dabei am natürlichen Geräusch des Windes und wird hin und wieder von einem künstlich erzeugten Geräusch eines verzerrten Sonargerätes ergänzt. Dabei hat jedes der gezeigten Diagramme seinen einzigartigen Klang.

What remains when a landscape is abandoned?
In Cava di Travertino, Lucien Liebecke and Beate Gärtner turn their attention to a deserted travertine quarry near Rome. Inspired by the tradition of landscape painting, the film unfolds as a quiet moving image tableau where traces of nature and human intervention become inseparable.

Into the Woods explores the forest as a space of shifting emotions and conflicting perceptions. Drawing on fairy tales, mythology and the legacy of Romanticism, the programme moves between refuge and danger, wonder and unease.

Like the forests of childhood stories, it can appear as a place of shelter and transformation, but also as a landscape where uncertainty and isolation emerge. Through a series of short video works, the exhibition traces the fragile relationship between humans and nature, guiding viewers through emotional states that are at once familiar, unsettling and deeply contemporary.

Into the Woods focuses on the relationship between humans and nature through the lens of fairytales with mythical elements derived from Romanticism. In these tales the perception of a forest triggers a range of emotions. In “Snow White” the forest represents a place of refuge, whereas in “Little Red Riding Hood” the big bad wolf lurks among the trees. This contrasts with our modern desire, as city dwellers, to seek out the forest as an idyllic and peaceful place to relax. In other contexts, however, this tranquillity can trigger feelings of eeriness and loneliness, especially at night or during natural disasters.
