Our 21 mo/old Mal has had many names since puppyhood, but his newest is quite appropriate…Goosifer. #gusgusgoose #malinoisofinsta #malinois by @lifeaftermoo

One year ago today, J and I drove to Columbia, SC to pick up the newest member of our family. He was part of the NCIS litter at @madrescue. The last year hasn’t been easy…this boy was scared of a lot. Stairs, the dark, wind, fog, you name it. He’s still scared of most people he doesn’t know. He’s a Mal with giraffe legs, able to jump a fence like a gazelle…without a running start. He’s amazing at soccer and loves the water. He doesn’t care about Kong’s but squeaky balls? That’s life. Loves carrots, watermelon and bananas. Will put ANYTHING in this mouth, regardless of the consequences. Loves playing with other dogs, too. He’s a good boy, relatively calm for a Mal, just needs a little work. Goes by Gus, Goose, Bubs and a slew of curse words 🤣. Happy Gotcha Day, Goose! #malinois #malinoisofinstagram #adopt by @lifeaftermoo

Gus can be more serious than Moo was, but he is a rescue and Miki was a K9 who turned derp in retirement. They do have a few similar qualities…the main one being both would dress up for anyone other than me. Happy Valentines Day from Goose. As a bonus, here’s Moo’s last vday pic, one of my favs. 💕 @vontrappanimallodge #itsamalvalentinsday #malinoisofinstagram #valentinesdaydogs #malinois by @lifeaftermoo

This is a full size couch and apparently claimed by a 75lb Mal with super long legs and body that remind me of a deer. #malinois #malinoisofinstagram #goose #gusgusgoose #bigpuppy by @lifeaftermoo

Today, Miki would have been 10 years old. We still miss him every single day and I can’t count times I’ve called Gus by his name. Oddly, his BD is 3 days after Gus and his Gotcha day is 3 days after Gus. I figure he and Jackson are hanging out together, ignoring one another as they did when they were both here. Love ya, Moo. #missmyboy #mooman by @lifeaftermoo

Adopting a retired K9 gave us the opportunity to really learn about his world. We’ve met incredible teams and cried for those now gone. Miki passed a little over a year ago and there’s no better way to honor him than to honor his brethren. It’s an honor to participate in the 5k for fallen K9 heroes. “Puppy” Gus should be up for the challenge. @goruck @k9sunited #2025fallenk9memorial #malinoisofinstagram #malinois5k #goose #torncalficantwalk #radarears taken in Wilmington Island, Georgia by @lifeaftermoo
