I met Mahmoud in Aleppo.

He was returning to Syria after 44 years.

During the civil war, many people fled the country. For those who left, returning was not simple. They feared being arrested by the military, so years turned into decades without seeing their homeland again.

On the same journey, I met Mustafa on my bus from Amman to Damascus.

He was returning after 9 years—just to cross a distance of around 90 kilometres.

Two men. Two different journeys.
But the same feeling: finally coming home.

It made me think…

The lives we have never experienced are sometimes like mystery tales.

We hear about them.
We try to imagine them.
But until we meet someone who actually lived through them, we never truly understand.

Sometimes, a journey is not about the distance.

It is about the years it took to finally make it home.

I went to Homs because I had no other choice.

I was travelling from Aleppo to Damascus when the journey suddenly stopped. Roads, circumstances, everything changed. I had to stay the night in a city where I knew nobody.

Accommodation was difficult to find. Eventually, I found a small hostel run from a Syrian family’s home.

That night, there was only one other traveller.

I never saw her face.

From our beds, in the darkness, we simply said, ā€œAssalamu Alaikum.ā€

She was from Algeria and was in Syria working with children affected by the war. We started talking.

About war.
About travel.
About education.
About love.
About life.

Two strangers, in a dark room, in a city that had seen so much.

At some point, I fell asleep.

When I woke up, she had already left.

We never met in person.

And somehow, that made the whole experience feel like a dream.

Maybe that is what travel really gives us.

Not just places.
Not just photographs.
Not just stories about where we went.

Sometimes, it gives us a few hours with a stranger who becomes a memory for life.

Some journeys stay in your camera.

Some stay in your heart.

And some feel like they never really happened.

There’s nothing quite as healing as being out in nature, i love being outdoors, just sit idly and observing common man, lost in interiors, light hiking a mountain range, strolling the shore of a lake, stopping to smell the flowers, I don’t discriminate. Something about being connected with the earth just heals and calms me in a way I can’t explain. It’s honestly addicting! Its something difficult to explain,

Inside the historic Umayyad Mosque in Damascus lie three graves connected to a remarkable chapter in aviation history.

Two of them belong to Fathi Bey and Sadık Bey, Ottoman aviators whose journey took them from the skies of the early 20th century to Damascus — and ultimately to their final resting place here.

Their story is not simply about flying.
It is about courage, ambition, a young aviation age, and a journey that ended far from where it began.

Standing beside their graves, I found myself thinking about how quickly history can turn a dream into a sacrifice.

From the first attempts to conquer the skies… to their final journey across the Ottoman lands — this is the story of Fathi Bey and Sadık Bey, remembered today in one of Damascus’s most sacred and historic places.

Some journeys end. Their stories don’t.

Historical visuals in this video include AI-generated reconstructions for storytelling purposes.

I visited Sednaya Prison in Syria.

It was one of the most horrifying experiences of my travels. I saw places and things that are difficult to put into words — reminders of what people endured behind these walls.

Some places are not meant to be remembered for their beauty, but for the stories they carry.

Sednaya is one of them.

A place that makes you question how far humanity can go when power has no limits.

I left with more questions than answers — and a memory I will never forget.

šŸŒ The world map you grew up with isn’t the true size of the world.

The Mercator projection makes places like Greenland look much bigger than they really are. In reality, Africa is about 14 times larger than Greenland.

The UN has now endorsed the wider use of equal-area map projections to represent the world more accurately.

The Earth hasn’t changed. Our way of looking at it is changing. šŸŒ

Visiting the Turtle Orphanage in Sri Lanka was a great experience. At first, I thought it might just be a tourist trap, but after learning more, I truly appreciated their efforts in rescuing, protecting, and releasing sea turtles back into the ocean. taken in Sri Lanka by @lifeasmusafir

People often ask, ā€˜How many countries have you visited?’
But the real question should be, ā€˜How have those journeys changed you?’

Because it’s not about the count—it’s about the transformation.
Travel doesn’t just fill your passport, it reshapes your perspective, breaks your biases, and expands your soul.
Every border crossed, every stranger met, every story heard—it leaves a mark far deeper than a stamp.
So next time ask the real question?! by @lifeasmusafir

Hejaz Railway, Damascus
Built in the early 1900s during the Ottoman era, the Hejaz Railway was designed to connect Damascus to Medina, making pilgrimages to Mecca easier. šŸš‚
Once a symbol of unity and progress, it now stands as a beautiful reminder of history and heritage in the heart of Damascus.
Thanks @swali__ for your wonderful edit.
