My name is Life Escobar (they/them), and I create because I believe art and storytelling help us remember who we are, who we belong to, and the world we’re fighting for. I come from a family of ten kids, spent a decade in NYC, and now call the occupied land of the Powhatan people home. My art and activism are woven together—both born from love, both devoted to liberation. My heart has been shattered over the past 15 months witnessing the genocide in Palestine. The weight of so much suffering, the brutality of settler colonial violence—it is unbearable, and yet I refuse to look away. Everything I offer is in service of a world where no one suffers under systems of oppression. I dream of a future where we embody collective care, where we hold each other close, and where we build something more beautiful than we’ve ever known.I find solace in painting, in the quiet ritual of film photography, in singing with the @rvaceasefirechorus, in the soft weight of my pitbull Fern curled up beside me. I believe in sending love through snail mail, in finding unexpected beauty, in stories that heal, and in movements that set us free.I’d love to connect—tell me what moves you, what you’re dreaming of, what you’re creating. We’re in this together. by @lifeescobar

A beauty break from the 35mm photo archives I invite you to take a breath with each photo. Feel gravity. Let your breath slow. Feel your breath nourish a place of tightness in your body. Offer yourself a hug or caress. May beauty find you today. ✨🌱🕸️ by @lifeescobar

When oppressive systems want us numb and disconnected, how do we restore connection - to ourselves, our bodies, our souls, the earth, our ancestors? Some pathways for me are through ritual, movement, guided visualizations, and creativity. I recently created a 20-minute guided visualization/audio ritual to help us reconnect. I’d love to share it with you!It is available for free download at the link in my bio or with the QR code on the second slide.🕸️👁️✨🌿💞 by @lifeescobar

I first fell in love with photography when my dad bought our family a digital camera when I was 13.I went exploring around the house and the neighborhood and all these hidden corners of beauty suddenly became visible. I realized that if I slowed down, shifted my perspective, leaned in and looked closer, there were previously hidden worlds that would reveal themselves.I began taking pictures of my younger siblings.I’m one of ten kids and I realized that except for the oldest two siblings, there were almost no photos of any of us growing up.Photography became my way of celebrating my love for my family. Now when I take photos, it’s one of the easiest ways for me to access joy and awe. It’s a way for me to see people and the world through the eyes of love.It makes me feel so lucky to be here on earth, a witness to LIFE.I love taking photos of people and the way they are able to see themselves in new ways. With more tenderness and love. So often we see ourselves through the lens of our inner critic, but each of us has a spark at the center of our soul. And photography is a way to show that. Photography has taught me that there is magic in the mundane. And even if we can’t see the beauty in ourselves or the world all the time, that doesnt mean it’s not there. Photography is my way of loving life. by @lifeescobar

Hi! My name is Life Escobar 🌈👁️🕸️❤️‍🔥I’m obsessed with creating art, telling stories, taking photos, and making videos.I also love finding beauty, dancing, singing, being with the earth, snuggling with my dog, watching Sex and the City (I have an encyclopedic knowledge!) and building friendships and community where I live in Richmond, Virginia (Powhatan land).I adore children and my original career goal when I went to college was to become a special education teacher.I ultimately ended up studying visual anthropology and learning about how media creates culture, and the politics of representation - which means exploring how systems of oppression are reinforced through narratives AND how people can challenge systems of oppression through narratives/media creation. For the past 13 years I’ve been creating videos for non-profits and movements for collective liberation. I’ve met so many beautiful people and communities through this work and I’m so proud of what we’ve co-created. 🥹🥰💞Last year, I wrapped up a year and a half long video project for the National Alliance of Trauma Recovery Centers. That project was extremely meaningful and very intensive and I needed a change of pace from being in my editing cave full time.I’m currently babysitting for a couple families, and I adore helping the children I care for have fun and know they are so lovable and loved. My aspirations for the next year include bringing my passions for art, photography, video, and storytelling back into the forefront of how I pay my bills. My phrase for the year is ✨creative courage✨. I also want to keep hosting community gatherings and making beautiful memories with the people I love. And as always, to make soulful art for our collective liberation! by @lifeescobar
