POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
We sold the farm.

And somehow… we’re still here. 💃

Six years of our lives—every ounce of blood, sweat, tears, dollars, and every fiber of our being—went into planting over 6,000 cut garden rose bushes to create this European-inspired haven in Magnolia, TX we came to call Life In Rose Farm. And despite climate challenges, pest pressures, and disease issues, these roses not only rose to the occasion… they thrived 💐

This morning, we walked the acreage with our girls—the very land that was once nothing more than open pasture for horses and cattle to roam. We reminisced on our earliest days of farming, when our dreams were big, our eyes were bright, and our tails were bushy. We were so full of hope… and so unaware of just how much this land would ask of us.

Today is a bittersweet day as we officially transfer ownership of this property to another lovely family 🥹

But here’s the twist we never saw coming…

Though Shaw and I no longer own the land, we’ve been asked to continue stewarding it by operating @lifeinrosefarm here as usual.

A year ago, when I felt the nudge to scale back in order to spend more time with my children—hence the decision to sell the property—I truly thought I was nearing the end of this rose-growing chapter. I thought I had to give up one beautiful thing for another. Because let’s be real… something always has to give. Can we really have it all?

But somewhere between the prayers, the silence, the tears, and yes… even the negotiations with God, He offered me a third option:

Stay with Me, and I will give you relief. 😭💕

So I trusted.
And I obeyed. And He provided indeed. 🕊️

And in doing so, I realized this calling to grow roses, and to spread beauty and joy to our Southern community and beyond, was not over after all. 🌱

I’m still working out the details with my employer (ahem… God) and my landlord (the new property owner), but for now, I wanted to finally share this long-awaited news with y’all.

Thank you for your love, your patience, your understanding, and your support through this transition. I’ll share more in the months to come, but for now… we’re here to stay, and we’re here to serve 🙏 taken in Magnolia, Texas by @lifeinrosefarm

Have you ever asked yourself if you had a chance to reshape your life how would you do it differently? Shaw and I entertain this topic once in awhile and our answers would change every time we’d frequent it! 😂 At the moment, if I could redo I would get into architectural design and film. While I find it so scintillating I also wonder if going that route would still lead me back to where I am now - a garden rose farmer?! 🤔 …because I sort like how things turned out now despite not loving what I did in the past 💐
Perhaps it’s true what they say, maybe “the grass isn’t always greener on the other side”.

Y’all know the saying, “Everything is bigger in Texas”?! It’s inclusive of our farm sign 😂 honestly, I’m a little embarrassed by how ginormous it is 🙈 Shaw kept saying people need to be able to see it from the street. Oh, I don’t think they’re going to miss it! Go big or go home, right?! 🤸‍♀️

Teamwork makes the dream work 💪
Almost exactly 3 years in the making and we FINALLY have an official farm sign and entrance, y’all!!
It took 2 years of saving and depleting our bank accounts (nothing new) to secure the adjoining acreages that now provides us with public access to a commercial road - 24272 GRAND PINES DR 🪧 Then, with a lot of coordination with our neighboring property (and even more patience) to get their overflowed dirt off of our road, we were finally able to have it reworked, and fences installed to complete our private drivable entrance! 💃 An exciting milestone that’s totally worth the wait. Gate to come as soon as we sell more roses 😂

If you happen to drive by and spot our farm, snap a photo and tag us on IG and FB! We are beyond thrilled to welcome new and returning friends back to Life In Rose this Fall 💐 Be on the lookout for our email newsletter with all the scheduled events happening this Fall. Make sure to sign up for it to stay in the loop - tap the link in our BIO to get growin!🌱

Funeral flowers 🕊️🤍 Lovingly harvested from our little patch of rare garden roses, day by day, bloom by bloom, until we had just enough to fill these arrangements. Then off to Dallas they went, carrying all our love as we said our final farewell to a beloved friend. 🤍💐 taken in Dallas, Texas by @lifeinrosefarm

First Fall flowers 🌱 Harvesting and sharing what little is blooming between my trial patch, personal garden, and the potted roses. 🌹 It takes me back to when we first established Life In Rose Farm - just a few hundred roses planted at the farm, and us harvesting every last bloom from that very first flush. Funny how something so simple can bring you right back.

These days, I find myself cherishing the little things more. We’ve lost dear family members and good friends far too soon - one after another 😭 and grief mixed with the monotony of everyday life can take its toll. Some days, even our faith feels tested.

But I’m reminded that we don’t have to come to Christ with everything figured out. He simply asks us to come as we are:

“Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28 🕊️

So friends, if you’re feeling some kind of way lately - or life just feels a little heavy - I hope these roses bring you a bit of joy and comfort 💝

And something I’ve learned in my hardest seasons: when life begins to lose its meaning, give a little of yourself away. Share your flowers. Check on a friend. Serve someone. Do one small act of kindness. Somehow, being a blessing to someone else has a beautiful way of reminding us that there is still so much purpose in being here 🙏💐

So many of y’all had questions about the climbing roses we planted and the hardware we used, so here’s a little breakdown to get your DIY project going! 💐🙌

The trellis installation is definitely doable, BUT fair warning - it’s a bit time-consuming and labor-intensive, especially your first go-around. 😅 Once you get the hang of it, though, the end result is absolutely worth the effort!

And if DIY isn’t quite your thing but you’d still love this setup at your own home…well, you know who to call. 😉

Consider this your sign to plant that climbing rose! You’ll thank yourself in a couple of years when your home looks more expensive and feels like it’s been around for generations ✨
Old-world charm takes time. Plant it anyway. 🥀
….and if you need help with design and installation, you know who to call 😉

A little early birthday celebrating for me and Shaw, doing all the things we love most 💕 So grateful and blessed for another year of life, love, and opportunities to serve and glorify God. 🙏

Cheers to 44 for me and 45 for Shaw! 🎂🎉 Here’s to growing older, wiser…and hopefully better at pretending we’re not getting older 😂

Hope y’all have a beautiful Labor Day weekend! 💐

For Southern roses in late summer, the goal is a moderate reset, not the hard pruning you might do in late winter. In Texas and much of the South, a mid to late August prune can encourage a beautiful fall flush roughly 6 weeks later.

Here’s the simplest breakdown:

1. Cut out dead, diseased, damaged, or very weak/crossing canes all the way back to healthy growth. This means any canes skinnier than the yellow #2 size pencil.

2. Reduce the plant by about 1/3. For established shrub, hybrid tea, and garden roses, trim roughly the top 25–35%. Don’t scalp them in August—the leaves help protect the plant from Southern heat.

3. Cut just above a healthy outward-facing bud/leaf node. Make a clean cut about 1/4 inch above it, ideally at a slight angle away from the bud.

4. Open the center a little. Remove crowded or inward-growing stems so sunlight and airflow can get through. This is especially helpful in our Southern humidity where black spot and fungal disease love to party 😂

5. Strip off unhealthy foliage. Remove yellow, black-spotted, or diseased leaves from the plant and clean up fallen leaves underneath. Don’t compost obviously diseased foliage.

6. Water deeply after pruning. Keep the soil consistently moist during the heat, but avoid constantly wet foliage.

7. Pruning tells your roses to get back to work. So, after pruning, it’s important to feed it with a seaweed based fertilizer to give it the nutrients and energy it needs to produce new growth and blooms.

For climbers: don’t cut them back by ⅓ like shrub roses. Keep the long (thickest) structural canes (about 4-5 main ones) and mostly deadhead, remove dead/diseased wood, and lightly shorten laterals.

And the easiest rule to remember: “Late-summer pruning in the South is a haircut, not a buzz cut.” ✂️🌹

Blessed Sunday, friends! 🤍

Sharing a little glimpse of the very first glasshouse garden Shaw and I designed and installed at our home in Hedwig Village, before life called us out to the country 🌿

After one particularly heavy summer shower, our Crepe Myrtle - absolutely loaded with blooms - was carrying far more weight than her branches could handle and toppled over. But instead of looking like storm damage, those cascading lilac blooms draped across the garden like Wisterias somewhere in the European countryside. 😍

Sometimes a storm rearranges things and somehow leaves behind something even more beautiful than before. Talk about beauty after the storm. 🌸🙏 taken in Hedwig Village, Texas by @lifeinrosefarm
