Adopting or fostering from LifeLine’s Community Animal Center makes room for a dog from DeKalb or Fulton. It’s a smaller, quieter shelter where they typically have more information about their dogs. Here are 5 reasons to come to CAC and 10 easy dogs to meet. 3180 Presidential Dr ATL, 11-7 weekdays, 11-6 weekends.

Getting a dog out of CAC is a twofer!

CAC is usually less overwhelming than the big county shelters.

It can be easier to find a match because there are usually more notes on the dogs at CAC.

Need a dog for your dog? You can find a good match by bringing your dog to meet potential siblings.

CAC has a super active Dog for the Day and Weekend Warrior program, which makes a dog 5-14x more likely to get adopted or rescued. The notes you give on their behavior away from the shelter helps make a good match.

Here are 10 great dogs who would be a great fit for so many families.

Scratches or treats? Playtime can wait.

Urdu has been busy playing with his foster brother, working on his fetch game, and zooming around the yard. He’s always happy to take a break for some scratches from foster mama.

I just knew Smitty would be AMAZING in a home, and he was. Toddler approved, cat possible, dog neutral, couch potato, super cuddler. PLEASE consider fostering him so he can chill at your house instead of the shelter. bit.ly/smitty-cac taken in LifeLine Animal Project by @lifeline_foster

Today (October 9th, 2026) is a very special day… It’s been 1 year since Hazel was saved from the urgent list!!!

She came to us as Tiana, a happy girl who barely escaped the shelter in time. She clearly had a life where she was abused and bred beyond her limits, but she never lost her love for people. Every person she met was a new friend and her love was abundant right from the start. She came with the name Tiana, but she didn’t respond to that name nor any other. After a few days, she already started responding to her new name: Hazel. And after some more time, she learned to sit, she learned to go to her house (crate), she learned to give paw, and most importantly, she learned that she was safe.

Between two loving fosters, Hazel has thrived and shared her sweetness with so many people. She showed us that even dogs with cruel pasts can trust in people and show unconditional affection. She showed us that even dogs who don’t know their name can learn commands and become an incredible house guest. She became my best friend, traveling all the way to Pennsylvania for the holidays, and always brightening my day.

I still don’t understand how Hazel hasn’t been adopted after a year, but I do know this doesn’t make her any less special. She is still available for adoption through Fulton County Animal Services (see bio for more info)! Happy 1 year out of the shelter, Hazel! ❤️

I got to work from home today so decided to bring a shelter dog home to keep me company. Did you know that just a few hours out of the shelter can make a dog 5x more adoptable?

Sylvie had a home for 5yrs before her family brought her back to the shelter for becoming reactive to their other dog. When she returned she had 6 broken and rotten teeth that had to be removed surgically. This best girl is so sweet and happy, and doesn’t understand why she’s back in the shelter living in a kennel 23hrs a day. She deserves a true forever home but in the meantime she loves a day or weekend out to get a break.

You can meet Sylvie at the LifeLine Community Animal Center at 3180 Presidential Drive, Atlanta, GA.

Reminder that taking a shelter dog out for the day makes them 5x more likely to be adopted and taking them home for a few days makes them 14x more likely to be adopted. Go to any Lifeline shelter in Atlanta today to take a dog out!

Change your point of view. Dog for the Day outings don’t have to be big and dramatic. What isn’t much to you is incredible to a dog stuck in a steel kennel 23.5 hours a day!

Getting out for at least an hour makes a dog 5x more likely to get out of a shelter alive (adopted or rescued).

A little outing nets a ton of info on them: on leash, in a car, meeting strangers, seeing dogs, taking treats, etc.

“It’s mean to take them back!” What if your boss said you couldn’t have a weekend because you don’t want to go back on Monday? Dogs need a break just like we do.

Mental stimulation relieves boredom and stress.

And they just might meet their people! taken in LifeLine Animal Project by @lifeline_foster
