When a Woman’s Sacrifice is Turned Into an Insult 💔
✅ She stayed home.
✅ She raised the kids.
✅ She ran the household.
✅ She looked lovingly after him.
✅ She made sure life functioned smoothly while he built his career.
✅ She sacrificed her own ambitions, sleep, and identity for the family.

But now?
🔹 He tells everyone she did nothing.
🔹 He mocks her, saying she was “on holiday” for years.
🔹 He claims all the money is his.
🔹 He demands she pay him back—as if her work held no value.

🚨 But here’s the truth: 🚨
💥 She worked 24/7—no breaks, no paycheck.
💥 She carried the mental load—schedules, meals, cleaning, school runs, emotional labor.
💥 She sacrificed career growth, financial independence, and personal freedom to support the family.
💥 She kept everything running so he could focus on his success.

And now? Instead of gratitude, he rewrites history to fit his ego. Instead of respect, he humiliates her. Instead of acknowledging her effort, he erases it.

What have you stopped doing?

Or never even started because you thought it was only a dream?

Maybe you told yourself you didn’t have the time.
You weren’t skilled enough.
The kids needed you.
Your husband needed you.
Your job, the house, the cleaning, the endless list all came first.

Do it anyway.

Make time for something that belongs only to you.

Because when you do something you love, you clear your head. You feel calmer. You feel alive. You remember who you are outside of everything you do for everyone else.

As women, we can become so good at giving that we slowly disappear from our own lives.

For eight years, I gave up pieces of myself. I believed that if I just gave more to someone who didn’t appreciate me, eventually it would work.

It didn’t.

Giving more does not fix a relationship where only one person is doing the giving.

So if you are always the person sacrificing, adjusting, helping and holding everything together, stop for a moment.

Think about you.

Take the class. Buy the materials. Make the thing. Start badly. Learn as you go.

Life really does get in the way of life sometimes.

The cooking.
The cleaning.
The work.
The kids.
The endless list of things that somehow always comes before the dreams we quietly carry around with us.

For me, one of those dreams has always been shoemaking.

I actually did a shoemaking course 20 years ago… and then life took me in a completely different direction. But the love for it never left.

This weekend, I finally decided to stop talking about it and take action.

I made my daughter these shoes for her very long, very narrow feet.

And I have to say, I absolutely loved the course I did through @icanmakeshoes. Even though shoemaking wasn’t completely new to me, this experience felt so much simpler and easier to follow than the shoemaking course I did all those years ago.

It made the process feel possible again.

Was it still frustrating at times? Yes.
Did my sewing machine test every ounce of patience I had? Absolutely.

But I decided this was not going to be another project that ended up in the back of the cupboard, half-finished and forgotten.

And now I look at these little shoes and I feel so proud.

Are they perfect? No.
Are they amazing? YES.

After the hardest 14 months of my life, I’ve realised something so deeply: life is precious. Too precious to keep putting our dreams off for “one day.”

So this is your reminder.

Take the course.
Start the hobby.
Make the thing.
Try again.
Make a mess.
Keep going.

Don’t leave your dreams unmet.

It is never too late to begin again. 🤍

Organizations need to stop showing up on social media with “Waar ben je?” and a hashtag #femicide and start actually listening to women.

🌍 Globally, one woman or girl is killed every 10 minutes by an intimate partner or family member.

🇳🇱 In the Netherlands, over 40 women lose their lives every year — often at the hands of a current or former partner.

Professor Marieke Liem of @universiteitleiden has urged greater collaboration between police, mental health services, and social agencies to recognize the hidden signs of coercive control before tragedy strikes.

And yet, too often, the voices of women who speak up are dismissed, discredited, or silenced.

Organisations across the Netherlands must do better — especially when women come forward with evidence of abuse.
No woman should ever be refused the right to be heard.

💔 We can and must do better — not just by showing up on social media or writing policies, but by changing how we listen, act, and protect.

Because when systems ignore evidence and silence survivors, they become part of the abuse.

When children's mothers are ignored, the children also suffer abuse...
