My mom and I stopped by the @equinox_valley_nursery while in Manchester, mostly because I was intrigued by all of the scarecrows they had. šŸ‘»

We checked out the pumpkins, snapped some photos, and got an apple cider slushie for the drive home. Definitely got my fall fix here!

My mom and I popped over to Manchester, VT while I was home to tour Hildene, the home that Robert Todd Lincoln — the only son of US President Abraham Lincoln and his wife Mary Todd — built in 1905. The home was purchased and restored by a local non-profit in 1978 and has been open to the public since. Incredibly, the 24-room home contains more than 90% of the original furnishings that belonged to the Lincoln family, as well as a 1908 electronic pneumatic self-playing organ with roughly 1,000 cleverly concealed pipes on the landing above the entryway. The museum is designed in a way that invites you to walk around the rooms as if you were a guest, allowing for close inspection and full immersion in every space.

I last visited Hildene in 2004, so I was amazed to learn that in 2007 the museum acquired a 1903 Pullman railcar called ā€œSunbeam,ā€ which is now also open to the public after a $2million gut restoration—an ode to Robert Todd Lincoln’s 1897-1911 tenure as president of the Pullman Company. Who knew I’d get to see not one, but two Pullman railcars this year, with the other located in Palm Beach at the Henry Flagler Museum. šŸ˜„

I wish I had more time during my visit, as Hildene is a 412-acre property with far more for visitors to see, including a working farm, goat dairy, cheese making facility, floating boardwalk over the wetlands, a greenhouse, an 1832 schoolhouse (fun fact, I went to preschool in a 19th century one-room schoolhouse!), and more than 12 miles of walking and cross country ski trails. This will have to be my excuse for another visit to @hildenethelincolnfamilyhome !

Even though I grew up in Upstate New York, I had no idea that tucked away in Glens Falls is a beautifully bite-sized place called The Hyde Collection, an early 20th century home-turned-museum. Built in 1912 in the style of Italian Renaissance palazzos, the museum is home to one of the area’s largest private art collections, having been curated over a few short decades by Louis and Charlotte Hyde. Famous artworks located here include paintings by Rembrandt, Picasso, Degas, Rubens, Botticelli, Winslow Homer, and more—all showcased in a way that invites you to view the art as an intimate guest of the Hyde’s instead of as an everyday museum goer.

I highly recommend a visit if you’re in the area and need something fun and quick to do—or just need an escape for a rainy day, which is exactly how we did it!

Justin and I recently visited Whitehall, or what is now known as the Henry Flagler Museum, in Palm Beach. ā˜ŗļø

The Gilded Age estate was a 1901 wedding gift from Henry Flagler to his wife Mary Lily, who was 38 years his junior. The 100,000 square foot and 75-room home cost today’s equivalent of $154.89 million to build and furnish, featuring rare Jamaican wood paneling, solid marble stairs, silk hung walls, aluminum leaf plaster (which was just as expensive as gold), and other luxury finishes.

Flagler made his wealth as a founding partner of the Standard Oil Company, and later established the Florida East Coast Railway which made the development of Florida possible—and, it still operates today as FEC! His personal rail car ā€œThe Ramblerā€ is perfectly preserved for tourists to walk through in the glass pavilion on the estate.

Flagler died in 1913, leaving his young wife his entire estate, valued at $3.36 billion in today’s dollars. She only outlived him by four years, dying under what some have called mysterious and suspicious circumstances, leaving most of the Flagler wealth to her 22-year-old niece Louise.

The estate was sold in 1925 and operated as a luxury hotel until 1959. During that time, extensive additions were tacked onto the back of the home, some of which remain and others (including the hotel tower) which have since been removed as part of restoration efforts since it became a museum open to the public in 1960.

The Flagler Whitehall estate is a stunning piece of southern Gilded Age history—and well worth the visit if you’re ever in town!

Here’s to one year of pressing buttons on my cameras and hoping for the best! Here are some of what I think are my best photos from the last 12ish month. ā˜ŗļø

I’ve taken about 21k photos in the past year on my Sony a7iv and Fujifilm x-t50 cameras and still don’t really understand the exposure triangle—which totally tracks because I’ve never had the patience for classes outside of school. The perfect example is piano, which I taught myself and then drove a college professor nuts when I finally needed help to learn a Chopin Nocturne and told her I didn’t know the names of half the notes or my scales 🤣 and I still learned how to play it 😁.

Anyway I’m having so much fun with my photography hobby and would love to experiment with film photography next…but feel like I actually should take a course before sinking money into that (sorry Justin!).

Also šŸ“ø credit to my sister @kathdombros for taking the first photo of me during our trip to Italy. šŸ’•

Xoxo

It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint and a new color scheme can do to a house. Our exterior paint project is finally completed and it feels like we have a whole new home!

A big thank you to our wonderful contractors at @sflpaintingservicesinc who did this job for us, just as the weather here started heating up. They worked tirelessly in 90° temps and hot sun for 7 whole days to get this done, and even pressure washed our roof and driveway. We couldn’t be happier with how this turned out!

Paint colors from @benjaminmoore (we used Swiss Coffee and Norway Spruce).

New lighting fixtures from @pookylightsus (we used the Crail sconces and pendant fixture)

We’re finally getting our house painted! Swipe through for some progress photos, including original photos of what the house looked like in 2003 and 2007 in its previous colors.

For this latest paint job, we wanted our house to feel more reminiscent of that Addison Mizner Palm Beach aesthetic—so we chose Swiss Coffee for the fascia and Norway Spruce by @benjaminmoore for all the trim. Our gutters were supposed to be painted Swiss Coffee too, but the painters surprised us with the green—a happy accident that we’re leaning into. 😁 We were also convinced to pressure wash our clay tile roof, and can you believe the difference that made?!

Final photos coming soon, with eventual updates on new landscaping. 😘

Had such a fun time this month celebrating my friend Jenna’s bachelorette in one of my favorite cities—Charleston! We had such a fun weekend exploring this historic city, shopping, laughing, and eating some incredible food. Can’t wait for the wedding in April!! šŸ’•šŸ‘°šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

I took my Sony to Palm Beach over the weekend to capture some moments from my friend Michael’s weekend visit. 😁 I also wanted to test out a new custom preset that Chat GPT helped me create that feels similar to the Classic Cuban Negative recipe I sometimes use on my FujfiFilm—I actually think some of these shots are pretty close!!

When I wasn’t taking photos, we were on the lookout for local celebs Suebelle and Palm Beach Pete (not to be confused with Jeffrey Epstein šŸ‘€), but we ended up seeing Sean Hannity instead outside the Colony!

Some photos from exploring Palm Beach Island while my cousin was here. šŸ¤— It’s amazing how European some parts of the island feel, especially with all of the little vias that you can meander along off of Worth Avenue. 🌓
