every moment with my dog is priceless. Even tho he still looks like a puppy, he’s already 6, and the little signs of aging remind me to cherish every walk, every playtime, and every cuddle. Time flies with dogs, don’t take a single moment for granted...

Haruto has a neurological condition called paroxysmal dyskinesia. Over the years, we've learned and adapted. Every time he gets overly excited, or if I happen to pass my stress on to him, there's a chance of an episode.

We've learned to live with it, and I feel grateful this isn't a worse case, meaning there are no lasting effects afterward. Of course, seeing little Haruto have an episode where he might pee himself or vomit is hard, because it feels scary for him. But with the things you love, you learn to adapt.

If your dog is going through something similar, or was just diagnosed and you feel lost, I've been there and I'm happy to share what helped us. That said, every dog is different, so please always check with a vet or a neurologist before changing anything, diet, meds, or otherwise. What worked for Haruto might not be the answer for yours.

Feel free to DM me if you'd like to chat. My DMs are always open 🫶

This is Yuki, an 8–10 year old Shiba Inu who is finally experiencing life outside a cage. She spent most of her life in a breeding facility, never knowing what a real home felt like, until the day I met her. I had heard people talk about that instant connection you sometimes feel at shelters, but experiencing it myself for the first time was something I was not prepared for. With Yuki, it was impossible to walk away.

Multiple shelters in Hong Kong stepped in to care for over a hundred abandoned Shibas. Thanks to their work, many have already found homes, but others are still waiting. With shelters overwhelmed, friends in Hong Kong fostered Yuki while I handled the adoption process thousands of miles away. After delays, snowstorms, paperwork, and travel back and forth, she finally made it home, where she is slowly learning what it means to be a dog.

Haruto was not on board at all, and right now we are all decompressing and figuring things out together. We will see how it evolves over the next few weeks, but Yuki has already started finding her place.

If you have ever thought about adopting a senior dog or supporting a rescue, even small actions matter. Sharing stories like this helps dogs who are still waiting for their chance at a home.

Whatever time we get with our dogs is as precious as it can be. No need to dramatize life, but it will always hurt knowing they won’t be here as long as we’d want 🖤
