I really love this place, and I’m trying to soak in as many sunrises as possible lately!

I’ve been here more times than I can count, and somehow I still end up taking a bunch of photos. I love the architecture, the views, and how different everything looks depending on the light. ☺️

A few views from a walk around the LA Arboretum 🌿

I hadn’t been here in a little while, so I spent the morning walking around with my camera and seeing what I could find.

Whenever I visit, I feel like I have to see every single thing…and you can probably tell from this carousel. But the variety here is immaculate, in my opinion. ☺️ So much so that I had to get a membership here too, lol.

(Also I’ll never rid myself of the millennial tendency to add ‘lol’ to everything.)

Sunset at Vasquez Rocks County Park ⛰️

I saw the clouds forming around Los Angeles and decided to make the drive out to Vasquez Rocks. I’m very happy I did. 😍

The clouds were incredible, and the light kept changing as I hiked around the park. By sunset, the sky had turned all kinds of pink and purple over the rock formations.

Vasquez Rocks is one of those places you’ve probably seen before without realizing it. The park has been used as a filming location for decades, with its iconic rock formations appearing in Star Trek, The Flintstones, Blazing Saddles, and plenty of other movies and TV shows. 🎬

And somehow I didn’t realize the Pacific Crest Trail runs right through Vasquez Rocks Natural Area until this trip. The more you know. ☺️

Full moonrise over DTLA from Kenneth Hahn 🌕

I spent the last two nights around Los Angeles trying to capture the full moon rising. It’s been a little while since I’ve shot a moonrise timelapse, so I was really hoping the clouds would cooperate.

They did not. 🫠 Both nights were a fail. You win some, you lose some.

So instead, I’m bringing these back from February, when the clouds actually worked in my favor. 🥹
The way they formed this dragon-like shape right as the moon was rising was such an unexpected win.

I also managed to catch a mini timelapse it, which is on the second slide. 🌕🎥

Sunrise at Malibu Pier 🌅

Every time I make the trip out to Malibu, I tell myself I need to catch more sunrises along the Southern California coast, but the conditions are always so hit or miss.

No matter what, being by the ocean early in the morning brings me so much peace. So I guess that’s gotta count for something, lol. ☺️

I’m looking forward to the changing season, literally and figuratively. 🍂

There’s something exciting about not knowing exactly what the next few months will look like, but being ready for them anyway.

Through all the changes, I’ll still be finding my way back to my favorite place in Los Angeles. Griffith Observatory will never get old to me. 😍

DTLA at sunset from Ascot Hills Park 🌇

Echo Park Lake 🪷

I came out specifically wanting to photograph the lotus flowers, and they were blooming like crazy. They truly look unreal…almost like there’s a wedge of cheese growing in the middle of them. Idk. I find myself rambling in these posts lately. 🫠

Also, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of this view of the lake with DTLA sitting right behind it. 😍

Santa Monica Pier sunrise 🌤️

There’s something about Santa Monica early in the morning. Some of us are out there just strolling with a coffee, others are setting up for a day of selling, some are fishing, and so many are already out and active before it gets too crowded. It’s pretty cool to witness.

I, myself, am photographing, getting my steps in, AND drinking my coffee. 😂

Seriously though, lately I’ve found myself doing more than just photographing what I see. Having a camera in my hand has naturally opened the door to conversations with people I probably wouldn’t have spoken to.
Those little interactions have become a much appreciated part of getting out to shoot. 😊
