So, this may be one of my dumbest fakemon concepts… not coincidentally, it's also one of my oldest. It dates back to Gen I, meaning that I was 8 or 9 at the time, and its name is Leafydactyl. It's a pterodactyl made of rhododendron bush leaves and branches. That's it, that's the concept. The original incarnation literally was just a rhododendron twig with at least three leaves on it — one "head" and two "wings". I just generated some leaf pterodactyls in Vidu to have something more presentable. Obviously, it's a Grass/Flying-type. (And it had a pre-evolution named Leafy that was just a single rhododendron leaf…)

So yeah… Mom, if you're reading this and want to know why I kept bringing rhododendron twigs into the house all the time as a kid, it's because I was pretending they were Pokémon. 🫠

This is a bunch of AI-generated concept art of Curvoone, my evolution of Hoennian Linoone (“curve” being an elegant middle ground between “zigzag” and “line”) and part of the initial batch of regional mammal final evolutions I made in Gen V. Like all of my final evolutions for the regional mammals, Curvoone has an impressive BST of 555 that can easily hold its own with the strongest non-Legendary Pokémon; I wasn’t kidding in Beavaum’s post when I said that the objective was to take the traditional weak common Normal-type that you’d find in the early game and evolve quickly, only to find it dropping off after the mid-game, and have it actually remain viable even in the post-game, battle facilities, and high-[skill-]level PVP. The catch is that the evolution method for these final forms is… difficult and obscure. In Linoone’s case, it keeps changing every generation, but it always ties in to the game’s player connectivity gimmick. In Gen V, it needed a Pass Orb from the Entralink; in Gen VI, it needed maxed-out O-Power; in Gen VII, it needed a Festival Ticket; in Gen VIII, you have to complete most of the Curry Dex; and in Gen IX, it uses the Union Circle, just like Finizen.

Curvoone predated Obstagoon by 3 generations, so the BST mismatch was unintentional, but as it turns out, most of Curvoone’s excess is in Special Attack and Speed; Obstagoon has better defensive stats, while Curvoone has slightly higher Attack. However, Curvoone’s stat spread is deliberately somewhat unoptimized, with its best stat being base 123 Speed and everything else ranging from 79 to 98. Curvoone has the exact same Abilities as Linoone, too (ChatGPT made inaccurate profiles again), so it gets a worse competitive selection than Obstagoon. Curvoone’s ace in the hole is its RIDICULOUSLY expansive movepool that’s almost enough to make Mew jealous; while it retains the same body shape as Linoone, it drops a lot of the badger elements to return to Zigzagoon’s tanuki roots, and it specifically goes the yokai tanuki route of being a shapeshifter and trickster. It can even learn Transform and 3 instances of Sketch!

One thing that I've tried to do ever since Gen V is give a final evolution to each of the "regional mammals" that takes them out of early-game trashmon status and makes them a genuine force to be reckoned with, even in high-level play. This is Beavaum, my final evolution for the Bidoof line (the regional mammal of Sinnoh/Gen V). I decided to forgo AI for my depiction of Beavaum… it's basically just Bibarel with a bulkier and more muscular body and longer limbs that it uses to walk upright in a humanlike fashion so it can carry big logs around with its forelimbs, how hard could that be to draw manually?

Famous last words.

I tried to use an Instagram aspect ratio, and I think I drew the head and body too large, because I ran out of room to draw the legs (meaning that I couldn't draw the feet) and didn't realize it until I found myself in a position where I would have had to start all over to fix it. And THEN I realized that I drew it at an angle that made it impossible to display the beaver tail it's supposed to have. Adding further insult to injury, I ended up posting this before remembering that Beavaum is also supposed to have fur patterns evoking the imagery of the clothing that would be worn by someone who works with the building, maintenance, and operation of facilities that harness waterways and water flow (like a water treatment plant or hydroelectric power dam). And Instagram STILL ended up chopping off the top and bottom of the image! UGH. I wanted to draw Beavaum because it's the template for Renaiagy, the fourth-ranked of the Progress Pokémon, and I can't exactly feed this to Vidu to get a good Renaiagy rough design!!!

So, uh, mechanically, Beavaum is just Bibarel with better stats and a better movepool (including Slack Off and Power Trip). It still has the same typing and Abilities (though the Abilities — Simple, Unaware, and Moody — are all genuinely really good, revolving around manipulation of the stat stage system, and easily make up for each of Beavaum's individual base stats only being relatively above-average). It evolves by level-up while knowing Bulldoze (a move that debuted in Gen V and that Bibarel needs a TM to learn).

I whipped up some quick concept artwork of Panyck on Vidu last night… for the uninitiated, Panyck is my idea of a Fearow evolution (which is why I call it that — "fear" is progressing further into "panic" — but I came up with this thing in Gen III and I was about 11 or so years old at the time, so in hindsight, yeah, the name's a bit stupid… the Japanese name I more recently came up with for it, Akudrill, is a better progression from Fearow's Japanese name of Onidrill). Panyck evolves from Fearow when it levels up while holding a Meat Strip, an item that functions similarly to a Sitrus Berry, but restores far more HP for carnivorous or omnivorous Pokémon than for herbivorous Pokémon or Pokémon that require more esoteric nourishment (yes, I have a list that I researched Pokédex entries to compile).

Design-wise, Panyck doesn't change much from Fearow, with the main tweaks being its pitch-black feather coloration and its savagely sharp and curved beak and talons that it uses to impale its victims and rip them apart. In terms of gameplay mechanics, Panyck changes quite a bit more: it's now a Dark/Flying-type and has dramatically improved its stats and movepool — like I said with Kricketrax, I kind of have a thing for taking really mediocre Pokémon that no “serious” Pokémon players really talk or think about and giving them absolutely badass evolutions that could take the metagame by storm if they actually existed. It's statistically now essentially a lite Yveltal, hitting hard (both physically and specially) and fast but with mediocre-at-best survivability, and being able to learn moves like Leech Life, Giga Drain, Night Daze, and Outrage. However, its Ability selection is still mediocre, with its main Ability being Keen Eye (prevents Accuracy loss and (since Gen VI) ignores improved evasion, neither of which are something that really comes up in competitive play) and its Hidden Ability being Sniper (which improves the damage multiplier of critical hits and is objectively good, but Panyck still only gets Drill Run to really synergize with that).

This is a batch of Vidu-generated concept art pieces for Bromelazon, the final stage of the Dainseed line and direct counterpart of Sakuryad. …I'll be honest, I'm not fully satisfied with any of these — I wanted a bit more divergence from the designs of Dainseed and Seeflauwir. Yes, I did include the previous Seeflauwir and Dainseed art in my prompts, because I wanted there to be SOME resemblance, but I didn't want the references to be followed THAT closely!! {*sigh* I guess I'll have to redraw it myself…}

Bromelazon is supposed to be a very large fully-grown bromeliad flowering plant that lives in a lush rainforest {it's finished its ocean journey and returned to terrestrial life, why the heck are the fins, barnacles, and sea life still there in most of these images?!}. As such, the bromeliad traits of vase-like leaves and inflorescent (clustered around a central axis) flowers are supposed to be most prominent in Bromelazon. It also has very thick and powerful roots that it walks around on in a vaguely spider-like fashion {which Vidu somehow misinterpreted as giving it a spider-like FACE in one image… no, just no…}, and the roots are also prehensile and capable of grasping and bludgeoning (they're even capable of setting off earthquakes and rockslides by shaking and stirring the ground, but Bromelazon doesn't learn how to do that naturally; it needs to use the TMs for those moves).

Bromelazon is still a Water/Grass-type, and continues its line's trend of favoring its physical stats and being slower but sturdier than the equivalent stage of the Cherubi line, which is taken further by Bromelazon's default Ability being Rain Dish (gradually restoring HP in rain; this contrasts with Sakuryad's Solar Power draining its health in harsh sunlight in exchange for a Special Attack boost). Its Hidden Ability, Jungle Gift, functions identically to Seeflauwir's Plankton Bounty, boosting the Defense and Special Attack of Bromelazon and its allies in rain (but since Bromelazon itself has physically-biased stats, that aspect is meant to encourage pairing it with specially-oriented allies).

Tonight, I'm sharing Seeflauwir, the evolution of Dainseed. Like its pre-evolution, it's a Water/Grass-type based on bromeliads, with Seeflauwir having sprouted and begun to grow, but it isn't quite fully mature. Seeflauwir is actually the first member of the Dainseed line I came up with, as it popped up in my dreams one night, with its Pokédex entry being displayed and talking about it drifting across the ocean from the land of its birth to an even more verdant and watery place, and I was spurred to write up a design document for its evolution line as soon as I woke up. (I actually recorded the exact date, too — it was December 21, 2011.) Bizarrely enough, the Pokémon I saw in my dream looked almost exactly like Petilil, but I decided to make it functionally more like Cherrim instead.

Just like Cherrim, Seeflauwir has two forms — an Overcast Forme and a Bloom Forme — governed by its signature Ability, with the Overcast Forme being closed up and reserved and the Bloom Forme opening up and looking livelier. However, Seeflauwir's Ability, Plankton Bounty, is activated by rain rather than harsh sunlight, and it boosts the Defense and Special Attack of Seeflauwir and any allies it may have on the field by 50% as long as both Seeflauwir and the rain are active. However, Seeflauwir's base stat spread (being the inverse of Cherrim's stats) actually favors its physical stats a bit more, so Plankton Bounty is really designed to be more beneficial to Seeflauwir's special-offense-oriented allies than to Seeflauwir itself. (In particular, partnering Seeflauwir up with Kyogre, which is ALREADY infamous for being a rain-focused special attacker that hits like a freaking freight train and activates rain just by showing up, is EXACTLY the recipe for total mayhem, carnage, and everything in its path just absolutely drowning that any experienced competitive player is probably imagining right now, and the fact that Seeflauwir just so happens to have no weaknesses in common with Kyogre (well, except for Freeze-Dry) and is notably sturdier than Cherrim just makes taking that duo down even harder.)

Today, I decided that I wanted to show off Dainseed, a Water/Grass-type Pokémon that I came up with in Gen V as a counterpart to Cherubi. Well, actually, it's the first stage in a three-stage evolutionary line (in fact, I made Sakuryad BECAUSE I made Dainseed's evolutionary line consist of three stages, so the Cherubi line needed a third stage to match). The primary design basis for the Dainseed line is bromeliads — a family of plants distinguished by leaves that are arranged in vase-like shapes and large inflorescent (i.e. clustered around a central axis) flowers. Dainseed itself lacks many key bromeliad traits because it's just a seed, and has only barely begun to develop and grow (thus, I gave it a crest atop its head shaped like a bromeliad flower to compensate a bit). While some bromeliads are highly capable of surviving in arid climates, the biggest and most famous bromeliads tend to live in rainforests, so the Dainseed line is also associated with rainforests (which is why they're Water-types). Dainseed is based on Australian rainforests in particular (with its namesake being the Dainseed Rainforest), and the formulation for its evolution chain involves it migrating across the ocean to the moister rainforests of South America as it grows up.

Mechanically, the Dainseed line are meant to be inversions of the Cherubi line that focus on rain instead of sun. The base stat numbers are the same, but the stats have been paired off and swapped — HP for Speed, Attack for Special Attack, and Defense for Special Defense. This makes the Dainseed line overall sturdier but slower than the Cherubi line, as well as being more proficient with their physical stats than their special stats. Dainseed's Ability is Swift Swim, which works like Cherubi's Chlorophyll, but is activated by rain instead of harsh sunlight.

Here is the source for the background I used: https://www.daintree-ecolodge.com.au/news/10-rare-animals-plants-to-spot-in-the-daintree-rainforest/

I was able to figure out how to use the Edits app to attach Mistikal's PROPER theme song — the Diva of the Twilight battle theme from Lost Magic — to an Instagram post, so I was itching to post Mistikal again with the most iconic and appropriate song I've ever been able to find for it… BUT just posting a still image of Mistikal again would be boring, so I cooked up several animations of Mistikal being a creepy psychic toxic gas cloud mind-control bioweapon thing in Vidu and made a slideshow of them.

The video clips all revolve around Mistikal using its two signature moves — Corruption, a Poison-type status move in which it takes advantage of its nature as a gaseous being to force its foe to inhale it and then use its toxins to directly control their brain, and Mind Rot, a Psychic-type special move in which it employs toxic psychic power to corrode its foe's brain. Mind Rot has dodgy power and accuracy ratings — 80 Base Power and 80% accuracy — but if it connects, it's guaranteed to confuse the target and lower their Special Attack by 2 stages. As for Corruption, it deals no damage, but it does poison the target, and did I mention that IT LITERALLY SEIZES CONTROL OF THE VICTIM TO TURN THEM AGAINST THEIR ALLIES!?!? That's terrifying enough all by itself!!! In fact, it's so terrifying that it has to be balanced out by several weaknesses and workarounds. First of all, Corruption only has 60% accuracy — and that's by default, because harsh sunlight cuts it in half. Light-based moves in general are Corruption's main counterplay; any light-based move that would strike Corruption's victim will strike Mistikal directly instead and raise the chances of the victim breaking out of Mistikal's control at the end of any given round. Mistikal also depends on its poison to maintain control of its puppet, so curing the poison also breaks the mind-control. Mistikal was designed to be the ultimate disruptive Pokémon, with the capacity to wreak absolute havoc on the opponent's plans, and turning their own Pokémon against them is the epitome of that strategy.

[@da Vinci] stares in unimpressed disapproval at an AI troglodyte snapping a pencil in half to `own the antis`. https://service.vidu.com/vidu/v1/share/vyqls

Look, I'll admit it — I enjoy using generative AI… but hearing diehard AI defenders rant about "breaking the pencil" and calling manual art "pencilslop" and "humanslop" is JUST PLAIN ANNOYING. I get it — a lot of manual artists have nothing but naked contempt and disdain for generative AI and would like nothing more than for the very existence of generative AI to be completely and thoroughly revoked — but "break the pencil" isn't a cogent defense or retaliation, it's just a braindead tantrum. It sounds stupid because it IS stupid. Manual art and AI art can coexist. by @lightning_farmer

This is another batch of Vidu-generated images of Sanarchern — like I said in the last post, I had a ton of difficulty generating something that I was even happy with as a rough draft. Part of this was a similar difficulty that I had with visualizing Fluxicsence, in that I wasn't entirely sure what an embodiment of socialism would even look like, even with the constraint of being largely based on a previous Pokémon due to the Progress & Regress Pokémon being quasi-Paradox Pokémon. Part of it was Vidu just not quite vibing with the prompt text I used about a flame-imbued magnetic stone serpent inspiring workers to stand up for themselves or demolishing hyper-greedy corporations and their bigwigs.

Several images in this batch came out fairly well with a few minor concerns, such as inaccurate supporting text or poor lighting, that I ultimately felt were better off manually corrected in Google Photos or PicsArt than trying to use Vidu's AI Image Editor (vague text in particular tended to just become worse with the AI Image Editor, in that coherent text ended up becoming horribly misspelled or garbled not-quite-actual-letters). In short, after a bunch of flubbed AI image repairs, I threw my hands up and said "Fine, I'll do it myself!" Instagram doesn't seem to support having both a primary body-text for an entire post and individual captions for each image, but I think it's rather obvious that image 5 was manually edited from image 4 due to the text I inserted being stylistically different from what the AI wrote.

Oh, and I am definitely not happy with image #6. Like I said last time, Sanarchern is a SOCIALIST. It is NOT a communist, because history has shown that attempts to impose communism on a national scale have a nasty tendency to backfire and produce authoritarian nightmares well on par with the worst that fascism cooks up (the Soviet Union and North Korea instantly come to mind). Communism may have good intentions in contrast to fascism's outright malice, but that ends up splitting hairs when the poor planning of communism still produces catastrophe.

This is a collection of Vidu-generated concept artwork of Sanarchern, the lowest-ranked of the Progress Pokémon — though "lowest-ranked" does NOT mean "unimportant", as Sanarchern embodies several concepts that are fundamental components of progressive ideology, namely social justice and equality. Sanarchern is also the embodiment of socialism, antifascism, anarchy, and overthrowing tyranny (I imagine its characterization being similar to Enjolras from Les Miserables). However, Sanarchern does NOT represent communism, since history has shown that to be what happens when leftism forgets what compassion and rationality are and dives headfirst into hellish authoritarian lunacy.

Stat-wise, Sanarchern is a Rock/Fire-type (hard-countering Buchanincel and being hard-countered by Crimsolusion), and its template is Groinxin, my very first fakemon, which has already been characterized as being a fierce defender of justice. Much like Groinxin, Sanarchern's best stat is Special Defense (which is actually toned down to base 160 from Groinxin's base 200 (Groinxin is basically the Specially-oriented counterpart of Steelix) to help make room for everything else to be ratcheted up into the 80s). As for the name, it's a mashup of "Sanity", "Sanders", "Anarchy", "Burn", and "Bernie"… yep, I named this guy after @berniesanders, who I consider to be one of the most decent and noble politicians America has to offer.

With all of that said, I really had a hard time getting a design for Sanarchern that I was even happy with as a rough draft. I went through so many iterations of "fiery stone magnetic serpent embodying socialism and inspiring workers and/or crushing oligarchs" and kept just getting genetic fiery stone serpent stuff…
