in the fall, my grandma left our hachiya persimmons on the windowsill to ripen. they were out for weeks before they were soft enough to eat and the flesh turned to sweet jelly. still, the core of the persimmon numbed my mouth with dryness. my mom spit hers out, but i ate through mine anyways.

after we ate we took a walk along the lake nearby. we didn't do this together before, but my mom can't drive now and she gets restless. so i drive her around like she used to do for me when i was a kid. i take her to the post office, the grocery store, the lake. i'm glad to be around her more, even if we don't really talk about anything. my grandma held her hand and i trailed a few steps behind. it was almost sweet. by @lightpassingthrough
