Is your website actually doing its job? Let’s find out. Hand your phone to someone who doesn’t know your business very well and let them look at your homepage for five seconds. Then ask them: What do I do? Who do I do it for? What should you click next? If they can’t answer those three questions, your website isn’t clear enough. Because a beautiful website that leaves people confused still isn’t helping your business. Try it and please come back and tell me how your website did! Today’s brand shoot looked very different from the beautifully styled homes and female founded businesses I often photograph, but this might be one of the coolest businesses I’ve ever documented. Rader’s Engraving is a family business that has been part of the Boston community for decades. They’ve created engraving for the Red Sox, the Celtics and so many pieces you’ve probably seen without ever knowing the people behind them. Warren is now updating the company’s website, and he knew the photos needed to feel current too. As someone who started The Paint Bar with my mom in 2010, I have such a soft spot for family businesses. There is something so special about seeing what one generation created being carried forward by the next. And then Warren showed me this ring engraving machine that his father used when he opened the business. They still use the exact same machine today. He even engraved my engagement ring for me, which was such an unexpected and incredibly kind bonus. Now I want approximately 70 more things engraved because I am officially obsessed with Warren and this business. This is what I love about brand photography. It isn’t about making every business look glamorous. It’s about showing the people, history and story that make a business worth choosing 🤍🤍 by @lightpopstudio

The kids aren’t the only ones getting a fresh start this September. ✨ There’s something about a new school year that makes me want to sharpen the pencils, buy a new 24 pack of Sharpies, open a fresh notebook and basically start a new business. I feel like my business gets put on pause over the summer. Now that I’m into the second week of my kids being back at school, I feel like I can accomplish anything! And if you have an incredible business, but your website and personal brand photos aren’t reflecting how good you actually are, this is your sign. Your website shouldn’t be the hole in your business. It should build trust, show people exactly why they need you and make them excited to reach out. And your photos are what help sell the person behind it all: YOU! First day of school was a success. 🥹🍎 We had the BEST summer and as sad as I am to see it end… I think we were all ready. The kids desperately needed some structure again and honestly, so did I. So bring on my favorite season 🍂 But also… all the the grownups were right. They’re growing up so fast and time is so slow but also just flying by. 😭 I’m trying really hard to hold onto these years when they’re still little, still excited for the first day of school, and still letting me be a part of it. Anyone else treating September like the second New Year? The kids are back in school and suddenly all of those “I’ll deal with that after summer” projects are staring us in the face!!
