The last of the summer🖤eyes still burning by @lights
What an honour to get to jump on a track with some people I really really like🥹 an ode to Vancouver and these broke ass times and delusional dreams. Oh and I got to wear a custom @pwhl_goldeneyes jersey that they actually crested for me. As I always say: times are whack, stay whacker. No wait that’s not it it’s: make art with people you like🖤 Our Year with @teganandsara and @felixcartal is out now✨ by @lights
This is why most of the process is kept hidden 🥴 but these days heck it, there’s so much trial and error in discovering the right to record things but that’s what makes it human by @lights
OUR YEAR with @lights and @felixcartal is out now! You can stream the video or the song now (or both at the exact same time!). Listen to it in your car, in headphones, as you walk to work, or skip school, in the dark, or on a rooftop with your friends. Either way, please enjoy our newest contribution to the T&S catalog and the world of streaming. It is with great joy that we made this thing together with a collection of truly wonderful people. Felix Cartal, Lights, @lukereynoldsmusic and @congletonjohn @mattygreenmix A big thank you to everyone who helped us get “Our Year” out into the world! “Our Year” is yours now. Hang out in a parking lot eating chips like teenagers. Age is just a number. It’s gonna be Our Year. 📷 by @lindseybyrnes Turns out getting up at 4 a.m. to hang out with your friends and make a music video without permits is pretty fun. I may have overdressed. It was the middle of July. But I knew the song was coming out in the fall. Gotta bring that fall fashion. This is Sara’s natural hair. We likey. These two go hard. Felix rode his bike for something like 18 hours, and then somehow the director, Kyle, put him in the video the least. Felix, call your union. Sara showed up to shoot her solo stuff in the middle of the afternoon, definitely the sunniest, hottest part of the day, at perhaps the busiest intersection in all of Vancouver. But she killed it. Calm and cool. A parent of two. Watch how it’s done. Yes, artists like to look at themselves to make sure the lightings right and their moves are translating. Dance till you’re dead. by @lights
When we sat down to develop a concept for the video for our new song “Our Year,” we tried to come up with something truly original that we hadn’t done before. A double-decker bus! Rain on the beach in the middle of July! A rooftop at sunset! Custom outfits by a Vancouver designer! Lights, Felix and us at center field at BC Place. You know? SOMETHING EPIC!  But since we were paying for the video, and all that stuff costs a lot of money, we had to pivot! Shot over 18 hours in the middle of July, we brought our best fall fashion, our best dance moves, and Felix brought his bike! The video turned out amazing (looks expensive too) and it was such a blast. The best day on set we’ve ever had.  IT IS DEFINITELY GOING TO BE OUR YEAR! Big shout-out to everybody who helped make this happen! “Our Year” drops Friday the 25th. Video too! #ouryear by @lights
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US! It’s not just our birthday today, it’s also the day we get to announce that we have a new song—our first since 2022—coming out September 25th! “Our Year” features our friends and fellow Canadians @lights and @felixcartal The four of us are all West Coast-based, and the inspiration for the song came from our messy relationship with this beautiful city we call home, this beautiful part of the world we choose to live in, and this complicated, sometimes deeply frustrating job we all have. But more broadly, “Our Year” is about the exasperation of watching another year get away from you, mixed with the slightly delusional but very real hope that maybe this year really might be your year. You’ve given us so much over the years, and it feels exciting to celebrate this big day by sharing something new with you. A little thank you for all the years you’ve given us. TWENTY-EIGHT of them in this wild business of ours. Hard to believe, but we are immensely grateful to still be making things together and still getting to share them with you. If you’re a paid subscriber of our Substack, you get to hear a snippet today. Otherwise meet us back here Monday for a little teaser, where you’ll get to hear some of the song and see a bit of the music video we shot in Vancouver with Felix and Lights! “Our Year” (the video and the song) drop September 25th, wherever you watch/listen to music. 🔗 in bio!
