Elizabeth Awalt @lizawaltpainter created “Siren” from a sixteen foot painting, mermaid drawings by her daughters, ocean ephemera, and footage from her dives. While underwater, she sketches from life where “light, color and forms are both recognizable and abstract.” The soothing rhythm of the scuba set and the alien world of the reef result in expressive drawings, several of which are on display as part of the installation.

LIVE/LENS is open October 9th, 10th, and 11th from 12-4 at Celebration Barn @celebrationbarntheater , curated by Bethany Engstrom @bethany_engstrom by @lightsoutgallery

I work in many media, including painting, drawing, embroidery, printmaking and collage. I’ll be devoting my time at Lights Out this summer to a monotype series exploring a variety of subjects, including language and writing; pattern and decoration; circles and spheres; and clothes in relation to ideas about the body and gender. Very grateful for access to the fabulous Snowshoe Factory and especially the printing press.
