One year into Hyrox. 13 min doesn’t begin to cover what I’ve gained from this sport. The discipline, the strength (both mental and physical), the friends, the travel. It’s changed everything for our family.

If you’re hesitant, sign up for that race. You won’t regret it. You’ll just learn more about yourself.

I’m so excited for our hometown race in Cairo. Excited to see this sport grow. Yalla beena 🇪🇬

@hyroxmx you outdid yourselves! Best Hyrox venue imho. Absolutely incredible.

Every corner and detail of the venue was planned with something new to see. This reel doesn’t even cover it all.

Mucho gracias! by @lightsouttraining

It’s @andyguatemala ‘s first Hyrox! And in her hometown #CDMX

After so many years of basement lifting and masked workouts can’t wait to actually get some decent footage of us actually working out together

This race is going to be so special 💜 by @lightsouttraining

When the @roxfit.app predicts my hyrox doubles time is good enough to win @hyroxmx (with no matching partner data) 😂

There are so many data points that aren’t included like altitude, tacos, and a course layout we’re bound to get lost in.

What other factors should be part of race predictions? by @lightsouttraining

Can you can get better at CrossFit by training for Hyrox?

I did an open workout yesterday that seemed to suggest it and now I’m thinking of testing that theory.

In this crossfit vs hyrox debate… i don’t think the answer is that they are mutually exclusive.

Also pleasantly surprised my power snatches didn’t look half bad since its been years since I last did them #musclememory

Or does that just make me like @huntthesheriff ?

Countdown time…

With Hyrox being such a young sport, there are so many ways to prep for it. We have definitely had some differing opinions and training methods in our household.

Biggest point of contention between us for sure.

Howaida thinks less is more. Because it’s only 8k as 1k intervals, you don’t need to do long mileage or high weekly volume. Howaida averages 20-25 km per week and mostly intervals and threshold.

Karim has individual sessions where he runs 20km.The thought is that it’s a majority running race so running should take up a significant portion of training. Mostly zone 2 and threshold intervals.

Howaida has faster run times but Karim is most improved and closing the gap.

Howaida is adamant you don’t need to do the race your training for beforehand because it takes away the specialty of the race. Nor will you ever mimic the set up, adrenaline, etc.

Karim likes having that understanding of what each leg feels like. While he may not do full sims, he believes specificity yields results. Surely @blakepennock2 has thoughts on this.

Karim hates every sled lane that he has ever gotten. Howaida just keeps pushing as long as the sled keeps moving. We did almost argue about this mid-race in DC 😂

Karim bought his @puma.usa deviate as soon as he could get his hands on them and raced with them the next day.

Howaida waited a year before pulling the trigger carbon-plated shoes and settled on @on but only as her running paces improved.

We do both agree on two things. 1) @asics are the best all around training shoes for running and stations. We both have had mutliple versions of the kayano and DS trainer respectively for years. 2) we have our eyes on the upcoming axis shoe @richryan610

From favorite to least favorite…

Howaida: BBJ > Sled Push > Wall Balls > Row > Lunges > Ski > Sled Pull > Farmer’s Carry

Karim: Row > Sled Pull > Ski > Farmer’s Carry > Lunges > Sled Push > Burpees > Wall Balls by @lightsouttraining

Basically all the things…taking shoe recommendations though

Expectations vs reality

Currently struggling from DOMS after first lifting session one week post Hyrox Boston.

Gotta shake off those cobwebs now because 10 days to @hyroxmx

@hyroxworld @hyroxegyptcommunity by @lightsouttraining

The most satisfying part of training is when you realize the progress. The reps get easier, you can do more, the weights go up. But all the hard work in between doesn’t always get the credit it deserves. You have to fall in love with the process to keep with it over time.

If you’re seeing this it’s because you understand and appreciate that. This is game recognizing game. Cheers to the process and seeing progress 🥂

s.o. to our @roguefitness rig for making basement fitness possible

#pullupprogression #hardwork #workinprogress by @lightsouttraining

The search to find time to cut is on 🧐

But why is the answer always the roxzone?!

In all seriousness though, Howaida’s surprisingly is the lunges. Karim’s unsurprisingly is the wall balls.

What station do you have time to spare? by @lightsouttraining

First Hyrox Doubles, and definitely not our last! 😍🔥

Here’s a breakdown of how we split the stations, making the most of each other’s strengths, with an average running pace of 4:54 👯‍♀️

Not all our station work was split 50/50, our goal was about getting across the finish line as fast as possible as a team 👯‍♀️♥️ it also really helped that the stronger runner starts and finishes, so the weaker runner can go faster in the runs!
