Aerial arts is my first love and most valuable lesson. My journey began twelve years ago with the aspirations of becoming physically stronger and more resilient. However, I could never have anticipated the profound impact this experience would have on my mentality and heart.

Aerial has taught me the art of perseverance and the beauty of embracing challenges. This journey stands as a testament to the power of passion and perseverance. Serving as a reminder that even in the face of adversity, there are always new opportunities for growth, expression, and joy. I am immensely grateful for every moment, both high and low.

⚡️Stilt Highlight Reel⚡️

Stilt walking has been such a fun and rewarding challenge to explore! I am so proud of my progress and growth throughout the past four years. I have gained so much joy through the process of experimentation and exploration of my love for dance and acrobatics on my stilts.

The process has been filled with moments of uncertainty, where every wobble felt like a metaphor for the unpredictability of life. I am so grateful for the lessons of patience and self stability that stilting has given me. From tentative first steps to confidently striding across the stage, stilt walking has become a powerful symbol of my journey as both an artist and individual. It reminds me that growth often comes from embracing fear and choosing to rise above it. I’m excited to continue learning and growing one step at a time.

Let’s pull back the curtain and talk about life behind the scenes.

On stage and in the studio, I am the happiest, fullest version of myself. This is the aspect of myself that I find easiest to share. However, a significant and often overwhelming part of my identity is shaped by my autoimmune condition, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

EDS is a chronic condition that compromises connective tissues. In my life, EDS shows itself in countless ways - especially as a movement artist living a very physically demanding lifestyle. To address my associated injuries, I had surgery to repair my right shoulder labrum in March, 2024. Unfortunately, due to EDS both my shoulders and biceps are torn again. I had my right shoulder repaired again in May and I will have my left shoulder repaired later this year as well.

What is seen is the combination taught in class or the performance on stage. However, what remains unseen is the frustration, fear, and sadness behind the scenes. Each day is unpredictable. Some days I can jump, spin, and climb with little pain. While on others, I struggle to even get out of bed. The challenges of EDS have given me opportunities to innovate and seek creative ways to move and express myself while also respecting my body’s limitations.

I am ready to take a step back, listen to my body, and treat it with the kindness it deserves. I’m learning to value safe movement for my body, even if it differs from before. My journey with EDS has shown me that strength isn’t physical ability—it’s having the courage to move forward, adapt, and discover joy in unexpected places.

I will use this time to rest, heal, and journal along the way with the plan to share more of my experience with EDS when I am ready. I hope my story can be used for guidance and support for other artists in the future - empowering others to embrace their own challenges with grace and determination. There’s always hope and beauty to be found - or even created.

I am excited about my journey ahead, the lessons I’ll learn, the relationships I’ll build, and the art I will create along the way.

Wow, I can’t believe this performance was a year ago! My spiral act in @kinetic_tapestry Celestial Circus Show: SPACE is one of my favorite acts I have performed on stage. I loved the challenge of manipulating a new and intimidatingly large apparatus. My heart was so full training and performing on spiral.

I was facing health challenges through the run of this show, and am so proud of the product I was able to produce on stage. It is reassuring to look back at what I was able to accomplish through those difficult times. I miss this cast, the studio, the stage, and the joy of working toward accomplishing a goal. Looking forward to more moments of resilience through creativity✨

At 4 months post operation after my second shoulder repair, I am preparing for my third (and hopefully final) surgery on the 17th. This has been a challenging season of life both physically and mentally, especially with new fall studio sessions starting without me. After five years of teaching and creating everyday in the studio, not being with my students feels so disorienting. As much as I miss connecting and creating, I know I made the right decision to step away and focus on getting healthy so I am able to pour into others again in the future.

I am balancing grieving what my day to day life used to look like while also celebrating the many unexpected blessings that have filled this new chapter. As emotional as the past makes me, the feeling of gratitude for the life I am building remains strong and growing. I am so thankful to be going into my surgery next week surrounded by an incredible circle of support and love.

I am constantly reminded of the resilience that this journey of navigating EDS has built within me. I will continue to learn, create, and look for the good along the way. Embracing rest, patience, and self compassion are skills I will forever be reaching toward. I am grateful for every small victory along the way that leads to the bigger goal of living life with less pain. I will continue to focus on healing, knowing that this time of rest is preparing me to return stronger and more inspired than ever.
