The rumors are true! We’ve gone and done something absolutely wonderful and completely insane. You’re looking at the new owners of Moston’s in Belleair Bluffs, Florida.

She’s a 27-year old shop with two 6-head machines and plenty of character and specializes in custom apparel and high quality embroidery.

Speaking of character, former and beloved owner, Marc Moston, is sticking around for a few weeks to show us the ropes.

We’ve got a zillion ideas for this small shop - she needs a bit of modernization and a touch of TLC - but we’re as excited as hell to carry on Marc’s legacy.

Goodbye, sweet Lara. I love you.

We met when we were 19. Lara waited tables at the best pizza dive in our college town, and when I got a job there too, she showed me the ropes. The two of us held down the dining room every Sunday morning through graduation and a little beyond. A little too far beyond for our parents’ tastes, but we did OK. Pre-service breakfast pie and Son Volt were our weekend ritual.

Lara was always the coolest. She knew which bands to see live and how to order the best thing on any menu. (French fries and Sancerre never fails.) She had an eye for an old piece of furniture no one else would dream of taking off the side of the road, but somehow in her home she made it look like it’d been born for whatever purpose she gave it. She later gave that gift generously to her community, building a career of making public spaces beautiful and sustainable for everyone.

Even when we were kids, she had this very particular voice: sure and kind and precise, with the hint of an edge that signaled she was not to be fucked with. I can hear it in Sadie, her brilliant daughter, and in the way her colleagues describe the way she was at work.

In our twenties we made all kinds of crazy things together, including a website full of radio shows, or what today we’d call a podcast, except that it was 1999 and no one had heard of that yet. We briefly worked on a screenplay about the peculiar workplace culture of the historic theatre that gave us both our first office jobs. (There was a guy who lived there in an apartment full of antique x-ray tubes he once toured the two of us through for HOURS - you see why we had to write about it?) We co-hosted theme parties and also a meticulously researched live multimedia show about the ghosts of parking lots?! More recently we made middle-age stuff – just as wonderful, much more sensible – like extravagant snack dinners and trips with her charming husband Tom. I will miss staying up late and making stuff with my beautiful friend. ❤️‍🩹 by @lilacina

It’s been a looooong time since I spent a whole big crazy week at the mothership with friends and colleagues from all around the world.
