My final collection ‘Girl in Scotland’. @lilahthom

Reflecting back on my trip to Scotland is really what began my path to finding inspiration for my collection. Keeping a journal throughout the trip provided me with valuable memories I could incorporate into my collection.

Having multiple sources of inspiration is always important to my process when designing. I was given my Nan’s woollen tartan pleated skirt when she passed away a couple of years ago. The skirt is a very important part to my collection. The pleating and the classic tartan print became a major reference point for most of my pieces.

Finally, I looked at the thistle flower - Scotland’s national flower. I became intrigued by the flower’s symbolism of determination and strength. I was interested in the flower’s beautiful pink flower head vs it’s viciously sharp thorns. I found the flower was the perfect reference point for colour and shape in my collection.
