Just Listed: For Lease, The Brydolf Residence, Spitzer & Adams AIA (1956) 3273 Vosburg Street, Pasadena 3 Bed with an office I 2 Bath I 1820 SF I 0.46 Acre Lot $ 11,500 furnished or unfurnished   This beautiful, original Midcentury architectural residence with pool in Pasadena was designed in 1956 by Damon E. Spitzer and John F. Adams for Mr. and Mrs. Rob T. Brydolf. The house represents all the Usonian principles developed by Frank Lloyd Wright: local materials, a closed public street-facing facade, clerestory windows, concrete floors, built-in furniture, and large glass openings to the garden. Set on a secluded 0.46-acre lot in the San Gabriel foothills, the house, with its L-shaped plan organized around the garden, offers canyon views, mature trees, and a spectacular infinity pool. A two-car carport extends the home’s horizontal profile with redwood paneling, while a Japanese-inspired water feature and garden lead to the lower level with the double door entrance. Inside, red concrete floors, cork flooring, custom wood paneling, exposed beamed ceilings, and leaded glass that creates beautiful light - define the material palette. The kitchen, with a Miele dishwasher and Sub-Zero refrigerator, opens via a breakfast bar to the dining area, while the double-height living room with a brick fireplace, that steps down toward the garden and pool, creating a dynamic interplay of compression and expansion. Japanese sliding doors connect the office and bedroom to the garden-facing hallway. Clerestory windows provide soft natural light and cross-ventilation, while direct outdoor access from nearly every room extends the living spaces into the surrounding landscape. A saltwater swimming pool, added in 2012, and a treehouse complement the garden setting. The residence offers three bedrooms, an office/library, and two bathrooms, with a newer roof installed in 2022. Everything in the house is tastefully updated to todays standards with central AC/heat, Sonos sound system inside and outside, Alarm system and high end appliances. Showings by appointment. SAVED, 1271 West 35th Street. Paul Revere Williams own home from 1921 until 1951. The modest 1905 california bungalow was subsequently added on and changed with details that clearly show up in Williams residential work in Hollywood in the 1930s and 1940s. Preserved with an extraordinaire effort by John Arnold in constant discussion with the city (Lambert Giessinger) the house will become student housing. it is now a Historic Cultural Monument No. 1271. The Play Room in the back was actually the entertainment house with fireplace and wet bar. When the new pediatrician of your child is in an amazing midcentury building that somehow looks familiar… (I wrote about their work in the UCSB exhibition catalogue) I got so excited that I could not really take straight photos and second had to immediately dive into research mode. Even my daughter recognized that this is an architectural project. Smith & Williams, 504 S Sierra Madre Blvd in Pasadena, California, 1964, designed as a medical office. All original. I did not dare to take photos of the light blue rooms with built in triangle seats for the parents (next time). by @lilianpfaff

For Sale: Aaron G. Green, Anderson Residence, 1959. This beautiful house in spectacular surroundings is one of Green’s finest works- an important and almost entirely intact example of his Organic Modernism. „True, there is a roof overhead, and there are walls and mullions supporting it,“ Curtis Besinger wrote for House Beautiful Magazine (1963). „But these do not seem so much to shut in and contain the space as to shelter it, give it definition, and suggest its use. ...The inside and outside have been conceived and planned as one continuous area.” While deeply influenced by Wright’s work and teachings, Green exhibited his own masterful and expressive architectural vocabulary. OPEN HOUSE today 11-2 pm. 8 Sea Cove Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes 3 BD | 2 BA | 2,175 SF | 3.4 Acre Lot $7,800,000.
