🇨🇭 Visiting Kulturhof Hinter Musegg is a great family activity in Lucerne. This 2.4-hectare non-profit organic farm is tucked right behind the historic Musegg Wall and is only a short walk from Old Town. It is completely free to enter the grounds and visit the animals, making it an easy way to let the kids take a break from city sightseeing and see the fluffy Scottish Highland cattle up close.

🐮 The farm is home to Scottish Highland cattle, pigs, alpacas, chickens, and goats roaming near the city wall.

🥪 The on-site Hofbistro serves seasonal organic dishes with a kids menu of pasta and French fries.

🍺 The farm brews its own craft beers on-site, each named after one of the historic Musegg towers.

🍦 A small farm shop sells snacks, local fruit, and ice cream to enjoy in the shaded outdoor seating area.

🥐 Morning walks through cobblestone alleys always lead here: Aux Merveilleux de Fred at Lucerne’s historic Hirschenplatz. Treating myself after exploring the Old Town has become the best part of the day.

🍫 From fresh, buttery croissants to delicate meringues, everything is baked daily—but my absolute favorite is the warm chocolate cramique brioche. Relax outside in the square or find a cozy spot indoors. It’s well worth the walk!

💜 Learn something new every day! Was wondering why on earth an entire field of purple flowers was blooming in October, and it turns out they’re Phacelia. Not just gorgeous, but planted to heal the soil and feed the bees before winter hits. Absolutely beautiful. 🐝

🚊 Take public transit (S-Bahn S4 or S5) to avoid heavy post-match traffic.
🧢 A small fan shop is located on the south side for club gear.
🥨 Concessions include pretzels, bratwurst, and fries; no outside food or drink is permitted.

🏰 We have a Disneyland Paris countdown, and to say we are excited is an understatement. We know our way around the parks, but we have never visited in October for the Halloween season and are looking forward to finally experiencing it.

🇨🇭Pastarazzi Hirschengraben in Lucerne is located less than a five-minute walk from Chapel Bridge. The restaurant was founded in 2012 and focuses on handmade pasta made with organic, locally sourced Swiss ingredients.

🍝 Guests choose their pasta directly from the display counter, including classics, stuffed ravioli, or gnocchi, and pair it with a sauce or the daily lunch special. The Alpkäse Alpine cheese ravioli with tomato sauce was absolutely delicious.

👶 There is no children’s menu, but smaller portions of any pasta dish are available upon request.

⏱️ The setup is fast-casual with an open kitchen.

🚶 Lines form out the door around 12:00 PM on weekdays, though arriving before noon helps avoid the rush, and advance reservations can be booked online.

🇨🇭 We were genuinely excited to discover just how many kid-friendly activities were packed into the Ziegelei Museum in Cham. What sounded like a simple historical stop turned into an engaging three-hour visit.

The indoor and outdoor spaces offer plenty of hands-on stations for kids:
🧱 Stacking giant foam bricks to construct walls and forts
🔴 Testing the ceramic marble run
🧩 Arranging real glazed roof tiles into intricate geometric patterns
🎨 Designing and cutting custom paper roof tiles in the basement gallery
🎵 Experimenting with playable clay chime instruments
🪵 Molding raw clay into handmade bricks at the Sunday open workshop
🌿 Walking the nature trail that loops through the protected wetland biotope

📖 While the kids stayed busy, I had plenty of time to explore the exhibits on regional industrial history and structural ceramics through the self-guided tours.

🎟️ Located just outside Zug and less than 35 minutes from both Zurich and Lucerne, the museum is fully stroller-friendly with elevator access across all three levels. Admission is CHF 7 for adults and CHF 3 for children.

🇨🇭 Exploring the Musegg Wall (Museggmauer) with kids in Lucerne is an easy way to experience medieval history with panoramic Alpine views, and admission is completely free. Plan to spend about 1 to 2 hours completing the route.

🏰 Dating back to 1370, the wall is one of Switzerland’s best-preserved medieval fortifications, with four of its nine towers open to the public. We started at Schirmer Tower and walked the path to Männli Tower, which offered our favorite panoramic view over the Spreuer Bridge and the Old Town. The interior wooden stairs are steep and narrow, so keep that in mind if you have little ones in tow. If you prefer not to walk the entire wall, climbing just Männli Tower is plenty and provides beautiful views.

⏱️ Another highlight was the Zyt Tower, built in 1442. It houses Lucerne’s oldest city clock, which by ancient decree chimes one minute before all other church bells in town.

🚜 Directly behind the wall is Hinter Musegg Farm, an organic community farm spanning 2.4 hectares. After descending the towers, we walked over to let the kids see the Highland cattle, alpacas, pigs, and chickens up close.

Practical details for visiting:
🚶 The Schirmer Tower entrance is a 10- to 15-minute uphill walk from Lucerne’s main train station, or a short walk from Löwenplatz bus stops.
🚗 Parking is available at Parkhaus Schweizerhof or City-Parking Luzern.
👶 The ramparts and towers are not stroller-accessible, so use a baby carrier instead.

🇨🇭 If you need fun indoor family activities near Zurich, Colore Box is an easy win. It sits about 15 to 20 minutes from the city center, and the entire goal is simply making a creative mess.

🫟 We booked a session with another family and were set up in a wooden-walled booth with our blank canvases stapled straight to the wall. Instead of traditional brushes, you get tools like boxing gloves, tennis rackets, squeegees, and toilet wands to fling paint around. My kids loved using the boxing gloves and toilet wands the most. If someone didn’t like how their canvas looked, we just scraped it back with a squeegee and started fresh.

🎨 The paint is non-toxic, child-safe, and water-based, though you should still bring a change of clothes.
🥾 Everyone gets a protective jumpsuit and shoe covers to block the majority of the mess.
🧼 A large sink area is available on-site for cleaning hands and faces when you finish.
👩‍🎨 Packages include multiple canvas sizes and unlimited paint, with glow-in-the-dark options available for an extra fee.
⏳ Canvases take at least two days to dry before you can pick them up, or you can pay to have them mounted on a wooden frame.
🚗 Free parking is available right along the private lane outside, and the studio is also easily accessible by public transit.
🍕 Signor Giuseppe is a ten-minute walk away for lunch, which worked out well since they have plenty of high chairs and generous pasta portions.
