Nature and wood carving makes me happy.

Due to lack of material, tools and time, as well as a certain sentimentality that my time in Berlin is over, I am sharing some pictures of old craft that kept me alive through a severe depression back then.

J U N I P E R - I’m in love.

This Monday I went to Stumsnäs / Koppargården to harvest juniper, for my very last project at Sätergläntan. After a successful harvest me and @clemmengregersen couldn’t resist a swim in the icy waters of Siljan. An amazing start into the week.

SLÖJD AGAINST GENOCIDE

Out of anger, grief and love a student initiative was formed at Sätergläntan last autumn, rooted in the inhuman situation in Gaza, Palestine. Slöjd from all disciplines were donated by students and staff, which was sold at the yearly christmas market, where all funds were donated to Doctors with out borders, Gaza. In total we collected 37 195 kronor.

THANK YOU to everyone who donated and bought slöjd! and @glantanpadorren who hosted us for this special event.

The snow brings light and hope in a otherwise dark world. The winter is finally here, and I am taking every opportunity to go skiing. I have finalized my first project after my injury this autumn. It feels so good to finally be able to use my hands again. So much to be grateful for! The old basket next to mine belongs to my teacher Björn.

Ett tråg kommer lastat..

A big trough I made during my first year at Sätergläntan. The chanterelles became a yummy soup the other day.

Nature is healing. So is slöjd!

Ask i vått och torrt.

Sharing a glimpse of my end year project this spring, where my focus was to get familiar with end grain turning and shearing tools I haven’t worked with before.

A technique that requires full attention. A mindful process, that left me with many new learnings.

You only turn 60 once, right?

This is an order I got last year. A birthday present for someone I hold dearly.

Shrink pot made from birch with a gilded knob in 24K gold. Linseed paint.

During my project work at Sätergläntan this spring, I created a burial urn called “the tree of life” made from fresh birch stem, using the shrink pot technique to fit in a bottom. The urn has a volume of 5,2 liters. Decorated with the tip of my knife and painted with linseed oil 🍃

One of my favorite projects during the autumn was to make a spruce root basket aka granrotskorg.

In two days I am finishing my first year at Sätergläntan. Moving from Berlin to a little mountain in Dalarna was not all easy. Looking back however, it’s clear to me that I made the right decision. I feel rich and privileged that I’ve had the chance to spend a whole year learning something that I am interested in, while being surrounded be by lovely, creative and knowledgeable humans 🍃
