We are so proud to announce that we are the VERY FIRST artists (and all women team) to put art on the walls of the Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Convention Center! We’re halfway through our mural and can’t wait to unveil the finished vision. “Heartbeat of the Crescent,” is one of just 70 works selected through a public open call that received thousands of submissions. Created by Lillian Aguinaga, Monica Rose Kelly, and Sasha “Swan” Kopfler, the mural is a love letter to the city we’ve spent years growing and creating in. Congo Square is the focal point of our composition because it carries the sacred past, present, and future of cultural expression in New Orleans. Every brushstroke has meaning and every detail has a story. Stay tuned for our progress! This project is being curated by Dumez Development Group, and we are represented by The Ella Project. by @lillianaguinaga
I’m thrilled to share that “Drained” was selected for the New Orleans Art Association’s 2027 Juried Show, juried by Carrie Waller. This painting came from that place where your body and mind have endured so much that you just don’t have anything left to fight with. Where the lights and colors blur and all you can do is surrender for a minute. Let the water hold you. Let some of it drain away. DRAINED is about that kind of collapse. Not giving up, exactly, but finally allowing yourself to stop fighting. There’s something very honest and very human about that. I’m especially grateful to have this painting out in the world right now. I unfortunately won’t be able to be at the opening tomorrow. I need to be home with my family for a difficult goodbye. It feels strangely fitting that the painting I’m sending out into the world is about surrender, tenderness, and letting go. If you’re in New Orleans, please stop by the opening, support the artists, and support NOAA. I wish I could be there with you. Opening Reception Saturday, October 3 | 3:30–6:30 PM The Building 1427 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd. The show will be up October 8–31, Thursday–Saturday, 12–4 PM. by @lillianaguinaga
Bday week has me in tears because my body is absolutely wrecked 🫠 I finished this ceiling mural the night before my birthday and I still haven’t recovered. But daaamn it looks dope! ACTUALLY I’m crying for a completely different reason. Y’all showed up with birthday love, purchases, and donations which gets me closer to Peru to hug my family. THANK YOU I can’t wait to share more details about Pearl’s Aloha Lounge, a Hawaii meets New Orleans restaurant and bar, which is opening soon. The owner @tina2shoes told me his vision. I said say less. Now there’s a 19 foot apex predator gazing down at every single person who walks through that door. Drink your mai tai and think about what you’ve done 🐊😤 Huge thank you to @sosh.0 @alienbbop and @octo_baal for assisting me! But much love to the real MVP, to the hardest worker on site @minipearlthefrenchie Couldn’t have done it without her. 🎉My birthday sale is still live through May 4th! 23% off everything - paintings, prints, merch and more - all goes to helping me get to Peru and keeping Entergy fed while I’m away. link in bio by @lillianaguinaga

To the sweetest thing I’ve ever known, thank you for 8 years of pure joy, the best snuggles, and perfectly timed gum-flaps. Saturday, our sweet Maybelle went to the other side to join her brother, Bauer. It was a beautiful send off and she had the best last days, surrounded by endless love and snackies. Mike (my partner at the time) and I adopted Maybelle from St. Charles Animal Shelter on Jan 8th, 2021. She was so timid at first. Poor baby was found on the streets, adopted out, flipped on Craigslist, then returned to the shelter. Bauer accepted her immediately and taught her how to dog: how to play with toys, do paperwork (shred the SWB bill), and manipulate humans (though she had a natural look for that). They became The Greyngels. Bauer passed in 2022. Losing him destroyed me and we worried she’d lose herself. Instead she stepped into her role as Queen Bee - dog daycare at Bark Market helped. She helped me so much during that grieving time, and I’m so thankful for her goofiness and emotional support gum-flaps. When Mike and I split, we shared custody, with his house as her main homestead. There she became the ultimate porch dog, with neighbors and random strangers walking by and falling in love with her. When I introduced her to Duckie, my partner Allen’s dog, Maybelle gained a sister. Their complementary play styles reminded me of The Greyngels, and they became The Bad Girl Sweetie Girls Club 😤😇 Her last days were full of love: a Going Away Pawty from Uncle Cookie, fine dining by Chef Allen, SO MUCH rotisserie chicken and chicken on a stick, and a pint of my favorite Ben & Jerry’s shared in her final moments. Dr. Jo (the best vet and kindest human) came over to Allen’s. Bryan and Allen sat outside with Duckie while Mike, Dr. Jo, and I sent her off. I’ll miss her grunty noises, dove coos, dragon yawns, pancake syrup smell, nose divot, and that velvet belly. I imagine her having the best time with Bauer and Rza, and all her play buddies, while the wise ones, Bbop and Appa, watch over. She’s getting so much chicken, ice cream, and snuggles from her “Misky.” I love you forever, Maybellita, velvet hippo, Baby Biscuit, Maybelly. RIP Sweetie Girl by @lillianaguinaga
The City Introduces Itself... and Three Women Hold the Brush There is a moment every visitor to New Orleans has, whether they know it or not. It is the first breath of the city. The first handshake. For hundreds of thousands of people each year, that moment happens inside the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, and now, the walls are finally speaking our language. The Convention Center is installing a permanent collection of large-scale sculptures, fine art, vinyl graphics, and murals from more than 70 artists with ties to Louisiana, spread throughout a facility that welcomes more than 800,000 visitors a year. Nearly 1,000 artists answered the call, submitting more than 4,000 works and proposals. Think about that for a second... a thousand Louisiana artists raising their hands to say, "let me tell the world who we are." And among the very first pieces to rise? A brand new mural by Lillian Aguinaga, Monica Rose Kelly, and Sasha "Swan" Kopfler. I have to tell you, my heart did a little second line when I read those names. Because I know these women. I know their hands, their color, their fearlessness. If you have walked this city with your eyes open, you already know them too. Their murals live on walls all across New Orleans, stopping people mid-stride, turning ordinary corners into something worth pausing for. And in 2025, during Studio Shakti's very first year, the three of them brought that same magic inside, filling our walls in the Marigny with a show Lillian curated. Our little creative home has not felt the same since. I still remember that Friday night. The paper lanterns glowing orange and gold above the dance floor. The marigold walls warm as a late afternoon on St. Claude. Peonies on the tables, wine chilling in the ice bucket, and people drifting from painting to painting with that quiet, open look you only see when art is actually reaching someone. The work was everywhere. A veiled woman holding a single red bloom beneath a towering amaryllis. A flamenco dancer exploding in pink, gold, and blue. Black and white swans folded into feathers so soft you wanted to lean in close. Women resting, reaching {continue reading in the comments} by @lillianaguinaga

BIG NEWS! Pearl’s Lounge is officially opening TONIGHT from 4pm until. Earlier this year, I spent about a month painting Pearl’s underwater world with a 19-foot alligator across the 792 sq. ft. ceiling. The title of the mural is “Between Two Waters” because this is the space that brings the Pacific to the Gulf. The gator, named Goldie, floated here with the tide and stayed for the Loco Moco. She fits right in with two of her teeth gilded in gold leaf - because even an apex predator deserves some bling. Goldie has taken on the roles of Protector of the Lounge, Guardian of Good Times, and Oracle to the Big Boss Man @tina2shoes . Most of the time you’ll find her hanging with her bestie, MiniPearl, the adorable resident Frenchie. I’ve already had the chance to try some of the food and drinks, and OMG that chicken and Mac salad! The Mai Tais are also 🔥 Definitely come hungry and thirsty. 📍 Pearl’s Aloha Lounge 2901 Tulane Ave, New Orleans Come escape with me to a paradise in the swamp! Check it out, grab dinner, and look up! 👉 are random photos from the month I spent painting the ceiling, I’m using the blank canvas (last pic). Thank you for your help and for keeping me sane during the process @alienbbop @sosh.0 @octo_baal 🙏 by @lillianaguinaga

Life Interrupted * Teaser for potential shirt release + HOTSALE because life is lifing so hard right now. Rent is due, projects delayed, and I’ve been going through some heavy personal stuff. Would you rep this shirt? If not, want to support this artist (me)? Tomorrow I will be having an all inventory SAIL. I will also be adding some new art to my site. Watch for it. Let’s say 3pm? I’m showing off some new paintings that are resonating hardcore with me right now: “So Exotic They Call Us a Threat. Then They Erase Us” and “Sin Nombre / Without a Name.” They’re about Lives disregarded and Loved ones treated as disposable in for-profit detention centers. FK🧊 by @lillianaguinaga
