DM us “GREENS” to get on our weekly list. by @lillo.farm

Got some delicious lamb over rice with all the fixins from @shahshalalfood up the road and added some of our own broccoli microgreens! Adding living foods to whatever other food you happen to be eating is a great tactic for getting more greens in. We like to call this 'piggybacking' 🌱🌱⠀

Although we bottom water once the microgreens are a few days old, sometimes they get water on them while watering trays above them. We keep two big fans blowing horizontally across the rows of greens to increase air flow and evaporation rates so your greens never come wet ✅⠀

Heard of chlorophyll?! We learned tons of information while reading Wheatgrass, Sprouts, Microgreens, and the Living Food Diet by Living Whole Foods Inc. (@TrueLeafMarket) Here is some of what they had to say about chlorophyll:⠀
⠀
"Although it is neither a vitamin or mineral, chlorophyll is a potent antioxidant and blood purifier...Its molecular structure is identical to that of the heme molecule in red blood cells, except it has magnesium instead of iron at the center. Since our body converts chlorophyll to heme in producing new blood cells, it is essential in the diet for a healthy, oxygen-rich blood supply.⠀
⠀
Chlorophyll is known to fight infections by altering the growth of bacteria, especially odor-causing bacteria. For this reason, it is not just a great detoxifier, but a natural deodorizer as well...Chlorophyll also stimulates tissue cell activity and its normal regrowth. It is therefore essential in the diet for rebuilding blood and tissues damaged by the toxic chemicals.⠀
⠀
In the 1940’s a man by the name of Charles Kettering (former Chairman of the Board of General Motors) donated money for the study of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll was studied intensively by medical doctors using FDA required standards i.e. double blind studies, etc... These medical doctors found that chlorophyll was a great healer and used it as such for quite some time. The next question is, why aren’t they still using it? Probably because it is hard for anyone to turn a profit on a product like chlorophyll which can be grown in any kitchen or back yard." ⠀
⠀
Wow! 🤯⠀

Giving the little babies water 💦 We use extremely pure water thanks to the pHountain Home Water Filtration System. We are very grateful for @phountain and @phountainhuntington for providing Long Island with clean water options. We are big fans of their filtration systems!⠀

We've been growing a new mix for a couple months but have yet to announce it on instagram until now! Introducing our Micro Mix 🤗 It is a mix of broccoli, blue curly kale, purple vienna kohlrabi, arugula, and red acre cabbage. This delicious blend of cruciferous vegetables can be used like any of our other greens and is especially delicious. ⠀

Not all seeds can be used to grow microgreens. We use specific seeds meant for growing living foods (sprouts, microgreens, wheatgrass) which not only ensures a high germination rate, but also that the food we produce is safe and free from pathogens 🌱🔑⠀

Sunflowers getting their first rays of light. They look so funny when they're this young haha 😂 It's hard to believe they will be luscious and green only a week later!⠀
