🥾5 NJ Kid Approved hikes
When hiking with kids expect to bring lots of snacks, and take the breaks that they need. We average about 1mph when hiking. These are all beautiful hikes that offer something for both the kids and adults. I have found the kids have always found hikes more interesting when there are boulders to climb, waterfalls to see, or ruins to explore.

🥾SCHOOLEY’S MOUNTAIN
📍 91 East Springtown Road along Valley, NJ 07853
This 1.2 mile hike is great because the water is beside you the whole trail. Two huge waterfalls to play by and an overlook for you to enjoy before you turn back.

🥾CHIKAHOKI FALLS in Norvin Green State Forest
📍Two small lots to park near here Bloomingdale, NJ N41 02.750 W74 21.027
This 2 mile hike did have a bit of elevation in the middle and in the warmer temps there is a good chance you might see bears. 🐻 We did! Be careful and keep your distance. But there is a waterfall right at the beginning of the hike, a fun stream to cross, a small cascade and then the Chikahoki Falls before you turn back.

🥾VAN SLYKE CASTLE RUINS
📍 67 Skyline Dr, Oakland, NJ (upper lot) tends to fill up quickly on busy days
This hike has it all, a small scramble a stream that runs along the trail, a dam and lake, some elevation with incredible views and of course the ruins to explore!
Around 3.1 miles from upper parking lot around 4.3 from lower lot

🥾RAMAPO RESERVATION
📍 610 Ramapo Valley Rd. Mahwah, NJ
We love this relatively flat 2 mile trail. Fun boulders to climb, a stunning lake, plenty of dogs to see, a bridge to cross, the perfect waterfall and a dam to explore.

🥾POCHUK BOARDWALK
📍 Appalachian National Scenic Trail Parking Glenwood, NJ
This relatively flat 1 mile trail on the Appalachian Trail has boardwalks for days, and an amazing suspension bridge to cross. We saw tons of turtles and even a snapping turtle! Provides very little shade during this hike, unless you continue all the way to the cow pastures which would make it a 4.5 mile RT hike.

This toddler carrier is a game changer for me. It seems we are always getting tired legs, even if we haven’t left the parking lot. My husband doesn’t mind carrying them on his shoulders, but for me that kills my shoulders and puts strain on my lower back.

🎃Spooky Fest at Liberty Science Center is where to be this fall!

There are so many fall activities that will get you into the spirit of Halloween.

👻We got to take a family picture as a ghost, learned about scary science, saw all the decorations, and of course visited all the trick or treat stations.

They offer a ton of show options with our favorites being Dracula and Monster family 3D double feature, and Nikola Tesla Phaser Show which was electrifying! ⚡️

Spooky Fest runs through November 1
