"So... what do you do?"

If that question makes your stomach drop, you're in good company.
Most of us were trained to make the work, not talk about it. So we freeze. Or ramble. Or say "oh, it's just a little puppet thing" about the show we've poured three years into.

You don't need to become an extrovert. You don't need a slick pitch. You need a few honest sentences you've practiced before the moment arrives.
That's what we'll build together on October 13. One hour. Free. Come as you are, introverts very much included.

Your puppet show idea deserves a budget and a pitch. 🎭

Join a group of your peers on Saturday, November 21 at La MaMa's Great Jones Studios for From Concept to Ask: Budgeting and Pitching Your Puppet Show. It's a one-day intensive during the 2026 La MaMa Puppet Festival.

Bring a project you're working on, or the dream project you keep coming back to. By the end of the day you'll have:

- A working budget built on real numbers
- A clear intro to tech riders
- A pitch you've practiced out loud, with feedback from me

Then we all walk over to the theater for *Everything That Follows* by Loco7 Dance Puppet Theatre Company, followed by a talkback with the group.

$100 includes the workshop, the show and the talkback.
Only 12 seats max.
Register through La MaMa here: lamama.org/from-concept-to-ask/

I just got to see Raymond Carr in person on the last day of his run in Brian Henson's Puppet Up! He, and the rest of the cast, were awesome, as always. Even better, we got to hang out and have a laugh after. I treasure these times with my friends and colleagues.

What really touched me was the first thing Raymond said to me: "I'm thinking about the class and what they need." He even brought other members of the cast into the conversation to brainstorm.
The generosity of puppet artists will never not humble me.

Raymond is teaching Editing Your Reel for Puppet Artists live on Zoom, Thursday, October 22nd at 8pm EST.

The thing about TV puppetry is it doesn't wait for perfect timing, and neither should you. While we've already begun with the first class, there is still time to join the TV Puppetry Academy Beginner cohort and watch the reply.
.
Everyone deserves to puppet. Let's get you in the room so that you can enjoy learning from greats like Tyler Bunch (#BearintheBigBlueHouse, #Muppets #SesameStreet)

People tell me all the time: "You're such a planner!"
.
Here's my confession. I don't love planning. I'm an introvert. My happy place is telling stories, getting lost in the creative process, and being human with other humans in small, cozy rooms.
.
So why do I plan? Because being prepared means I have the words when someone asks about my work. And because life happens. Plans get interrupted. A little preparation, with a buffer built in, gives me the space not to panic.
.
I trained myself to believe preparation is my superpower. And once I believed it, it became true.
.
On Tuesday, October 13, I'm hosting a free workshop to help you find your words too.

Physics. Electrical engineering. Marionette mastery. Kurt Hunter is not your average puppet builder -- and his October Office Hours session is going to prove it.
.
A Minneapolis-based puppeteer trained by marionette legends Phillip Huber and Albrecht Roser, Kurt brings a genuinely one-of-a-kind perspective to the craft. His Jim Henson Foundation-supported show "Penguin in my Pocket" has toured the US and India, and his UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence speaks for itself.
.
Join us Sunday, October 4 at 2pm ET. Bring your most technical questions.
.
Sessions start at $15, pay what you can.
