Grandpa Jack, 1931-2024

There is so much to say about this incredible man, he lived a life full of love, laughter, and happiness. For over 92 years, he lit up every room he entered. I’m honored to be his granddaughter and that I can be a small part of continuing his legacy. Being born into the Great Depression, reaching adolescence during World War II, “studying” at Georgetown (see third photo), collecting top secret information for the United States during the Cold War (which he never revealed to anyone, ever), working as a paige on Capitol Hill (him and my grandmother beating JFK and Jackie Kennedy in the official best looking couple on Capitol Hill vote), starting a family, marrying my other grandmother (his heart and soul, Grandma Kay), raising 6 children, witnessing their growing up, having kids, and raising their kids (10 grandchildren total), all doing this with a glass of wine in his hand. We can only dream to have as many incredible experiences as he did.

I have so many fond memories of my grandfather. From the time we sat in his kitchen and he asked if I had ever played 52 card pick up and proceeded to throw the cards everywhere, to my first casino gambling experience (under age of course). He loved France, and inspired my love of the language and the country, despite the only phrase he knew being “je boulaboulaboulatay” (it means nothing). He was smart as a whip, funny beyond words, and definitely knew how to have fun. At his 90th birthday party, he said he had two secrets to living this long, the second being his wife, my grandmother. The first, wine. I will never forget the Thanksgiving that my aunt called to let us know that, they had run out of wine and instead of taking his medication with water, he used gravy to wash it down (he refused to drink water). Right until the very end he was full of life and cracking jokes. He has championed every single one of his children, and grandchildren. And he will forever remain in the hearts of every single human he touched. There truly will never be another man like him.

I love you grandpa, rest easy. 🫶 by @lilyhoke_
