A 20 lbs difference. After my knee surgery I was bed/ wheelchair bound for 6 weeks. The atrophy happened quick, the time went by painfully slow, I was depressed, and too dependent and exhausted to eat enough. I watched myself wither away day by day. By the time I was able to start walking again, it felt like I was dragging a stiff twig alongside me. I was a mere 88 lb skeleton of myself. The light at the end of the tunnel felt indiscernible. Before surgery, I made the squad as a rookie NFL cheerleader, but a 9-12 month recovery would put me out for the season. I was told, “rarely, some athletes are able to return to play in 6 months.” From then on I showed up every single day with 110% determination knowing that the only thing standing between me and the dream of cheering in the NFL… was me. I had never weight trained with progressive overload in the gym before (bc that makes you bulky, right??? 🙄) Meeting protein goals was something that previously, never crossed my mind. I had to get in sync with my body and utilize every coping mechanism in the book. The result? I was back doing what I love in 5 months. I fell in love with the gym. I’m stronger than ever. And now, I help women do the same. We all have setbacks. We all have major goals. We all have 100 million excuses. But if you TRULY want change, you CAN do anything.
