The Demon I'd rather rip my chest open, put my heart in the Forest and be a Demon. Painting a woman is a political decision. I asked myself what kind of body would I give to a woman? Would she be beautiful, sexy, unhealthily skinny? I decided to give women the bodies I believe we deserve, dragon bodies, I'd give them wings to be free, I'd give them claws to protect themselves and their loved ones, I'd give them horns reaching into the sky like trees... I'd turn them into powerful female dragons. I've been painting and drawing dragon-demon women for a while now. I love them.  Women choosing their path in life have been demonized by society and men.  Choosing freedom, setting boundaries, saying no, dreaming... Makes you a Demon.  And therefore I love being one. It's an honor to be called a Demon because it means I'm doing the things I'm meant to, loving the way I chose to, living the way I chose to, giving my heart to the Forest, following my own path.  Every woman I know who has left an abusive relationship, every woman who chose the safety and peace of her children, every woman who refused to take disrespect, each one has been demonized. I love them all. I love our wings, I love our claws, I love our horns, and I love all the weaker creatures we became a home to.  With love to my Demons❤️ by @limawesterhout
The Warrior Witch... In this world being a Witch means you also have to be a Warrior... To all of you, Brave, Powerful, Inspiring witches, to all of you who keep on going, even when times get tough, and they do, and the mission is hard enough on its own, but in this world it's a constant battle... To all of you who keep on doing your magic, who don't give up, who shine your light in the dark.... Thank you, this one is for you. It will be okay. I mean it. It will be just the way it's meant to be. Its not gonna be easy. And I know it feels lonely. But we are not alone. We are protected. And we are loved. But we don't have much time. So we need to trust. And keep on going. Don't give up. Your medicine is so needed right now. Please stay a bit longer. And once the work is done, we will all go Home. Big big hug I painted this one with acrylics on a piece of pressed wood. #art #artist #vegan #veganart #nature #painting #acrylicpainting #illustration #sunflower #redhead #moon #forest #magic #witch #warriors #spiritual #creative #moth #red #paychedelicart #visionary #visionaryart by @limawesterhout
I carry the Forest on my head It's a painting I made about my experience of being an artist and living a life of commitment to creating. It's a feeling of being stuck, being part of a weird organic puzzle of pain and light, my own growth and paths of people my art influences. It's carrying the weight of my own experiences and traumas and feeling the immense pain, injustice and suffering of the world around me, and yet from that point of darkness trying to create beauty and bring more light into this world. It's about the balance of growth as a human and growth as an artist, eye of a butterfly on my skin, and wings as decorations for all the stages of growth people go through all the patterns we loose and have to reinvent. A wolf for the female rage and empowerment that came out of experiencing life as a young woman in this world. The one that protects me, but also the one I choose to keep behind my softer version, trying to still paint and act from my heart, not pain. I carry the Forest on my head, trying to protect it with my work, doing it for the animals that cry silently. Balancing being human and being a cause of suffering, and trying to do better and recreate the balance of being part of nature. My path as an artist is what protects me as a human, my path as a human is what feeds the passion to bring more light into this world. #beautifulbizarre by @limawesterhout

Memories of a Dragon For every Dragon that looks at a Bird they once were. I love and admire the journey of growth and transformation. But so many of us are robbed of our innocence and softness with such violence at such a young age. Sometimes I think back on who I used to be, how much hope and trust I had in humanity, how open I was. And I do not regret getting stronger, and I do not regret the journey and I am much happier now, but I do feel sadness for the versions of me that died along the way, and for how brutal the world is to women and children and how early we have to learn that our openness and innocence in this world is our weakness. I will always honour strong women in my work, but I also want to honor where we came from, the kind and open children we once were. We did what we had to do and we will keep on doing it, but what happened to us was unfair and we didn't deserve it. This is my hug for all of you. by @limawesterhout
The Paths of Life A series I created about my struggle of being alive. I don't want to share too many details about each work online, because this series is deeply personal to me but I thought it would be interesting to still share some of the symbolism behind it. The first work represents the invisible to society struggle with trauma and chronic pain, sickness holding you back. The second work represents slowing down in a rushed society. This is the only part that Is blossoming. Because only when you follow your own rhythm you reach your true potential. Third work represents the unexpected turns of life. Where you have to take up roles you do not feel ready or good enough for(a snake becoming a part of a bird's nest) Yet in this stage your biggest growth and transformation starts(the moth). The fourth work is about losing a loved one. Yet there is hope in the end(the four-leaf clover) because even in the deepest points there is still hope. Throughout the whole series there is a snake skeleton, because as life goes on, death is always there, it's part of life and our loyal companion. The originals are sold The works are available as a set of 4postcards(see last picture). by @limawesterhout

The Bird funeral For every Bird we kill a Dragon cries. The world has gone mad, and the only thing we can do is keep on creating, growing and doing better. Use ur sadness and anger to make a change, use it to create, not destroy. Keep on moving, keep on living, do what u r meant to. This one was meant as a painting for myself since it was made on a recycled piece of plastic, but by now it has accidentally turned into a proper painting, so the original is available. Important note: the plastic has a lot of its own underlying texture that is still there since I've made the painting on top of it, so up close u will notice it, but it won't be noticeable when the painting is hanging on ur wall. Painted with acrylics 49.5*49.5cm #beautifulbizarre by @limawesterhout
