this was an absolute fantastic read!

everyone knows fate foundation and that the founder is fola adeola, OFR; mni but how did this great institution start? how have they stayed relevant? how have they built the ecosystem in the past 25+ years?

the book answers these questions and many many more.

as someone who is trying to “build” something, I was inspired and encouraged by first the clarity and then the resilience and adaptability of the vision of the founder and evolution of the Fate Foundation and its arms as we know them today.

there were a lot of questions in the book but my favourite was “what must we become to stay relevant?” - a question that fate foundation teaches their entrepreneurs and also had to answer themselves as the ecosystem grew and they had to figure out what the future would look like for the organisation.

some of my favourite quotes from the book include -

“reinvention is the discipline for endurance”

”leadership demands contribution not hierarchy”

“a nonprofit heart, a business mind”

“inclusion begins with seeing”

I borrowed the book from a library and completed it in one sitting. I absolutely can’t wait to get a personal copy so I can highlight, annotate and redigest the lessons again!!

thank you for sharing your story @fatefoundation and congratulations on 25+ years and here’s to many many more years of success 💙 by @limitlesslaylaa

Last Saturday, I finally went to John Randle Centre for Yoruba History and Culture after talking about it all year!! Thanks to @justmuffy_ and @limitlesslaylaa 👀👀

I loved that it was an interactive museum. That was defintely new and refreshing. There were very cute picture spots. As a lover of museums, I had a lovely time getting to see all the history, fashion, mythology and music of the Yorubas.

I do wish we had a guide though cos at some point, we got tired of reading but for the most part, it was very fun. If I hadn’t gone, I’ll love to go again.

If you’ve not been to John Randle Centre, tell me why in the comments. by @limitlesslaylaa

On the authority of Abi al-Abbas Abdillah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with both of them) who said: “One day I was riding (In the narration found in the musnad of Ahmad, it makes clear that he was riding behind the Prophet [peace be upon him] on the same animal) behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and he said to me, “O young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]. Be mindful of Allah and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find him in front of you. If you ask, ask of Allah. If you seek help, seek help from Allah. Know that if the nation were to gather to benefit you with something, they would not be able to benefit you except with what Allah has already recorded for you. If they were to gather to harm you with something, they would not be able to harm you except with what Allah has already recorded against you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried”.

Recorded by at-Tirmidhi who said: “It is a hasan sahih hadith”.

In a narration other than that of at-Tirmidhee, it states:

“Be mindful of Allah, you will find him in front of you. Know Allah during times of prosperity, He will know you in times of adversity. Know that what has passed you by was never to befall you. And [know that] what has befallen you was never to have passed you by. And know that victory accompanies perseverance, relief accompanies affliction and ease accompanies hardship” by @limitlesslaylaa

friday reflections;

I joined an online session this evening with the amazing @aishah_adams and I learnt a lot (even though I fell asleep during the second half of it bc tiredness)

here's one lesson I want to share with the hope that you who is reading this, will benefit, in sha Allah.

As-Saf 61:2-3

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لِمَ تَقُولُونَ مَا لَا تَفْعَلُونَ

O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do?

كَبُرَ مَقْتًا عِندَ ٱللَّهِ أَن تَقُولُوا۟ مَا لَا تَفْعَلُونَ

Most hateful it is with Allâh that you say that which you do not do.

she reminded us of these ayaat and how alignment is very important i.e doing and calling to action - not one without the other.

Also, living a life of legacy begins with Ihsan - not perfection but being a better version of yourself every day.

this is already a lot for me to think about. may Allah continue to bless umm aasiyah & may He for whose sake I love her, love her too.

if you'd like to share your reflections on these ayaat, you can leave a comment or message me privately.

may Allah be with us all.

Xoxo,

death is so so humbling. SubhanaLlah.

yesterday, I was enjoying myself at a wedding and I got the news that someone I knew had died.

Trying to process that at the wedding took a lot from me. Right there in front of my eyes, two people were starting a new chapter of their life & another person's life in the dunya had just ended.

SubhanaLlah.

These days, I think about death a lot. I think about all the plans I make and then smile to myself - a sad smile, that is & wonder "what if you even die before you do all these things?"

I'm really scared of dying young. I have a million and one things I want to do.

But I'm slowly realising that we don't run on our times, we run on Allah's time for us.

So one thing, I'm trying to internalise is that "Start doing all the things you're planning to do later. Do them now. No one promised you tomorrow"

In a few days, it'll be exactly one year since I lost one of my coursemates in school. His death was a shock to us all, SubhanaLlah.

It's a powerful reminder for me that, eyan le ku any time.

And the only thing one can really do, is pray for a good end.

Ya Rabb alamin, I ask that You take my soul (and the soul of everyone reading this) only when You're pleased with us and I ask that You grant me (and everyone reading this) a good ending. Aameen.

TLDR; Death can come anytime. Start taking actions on things you plan to do later. Make dua for a good end. by @limitlesslaylaa

telling Allah November (day 6)

ya Rabb, I read about prophet Musa and these words. He had a great task but he made this dua.

what I've learnt is that no matter what, I should have tawakkul & trust in you. because you are Dhul Jalal wal ikram.

ya Allah, I ask that you make it easy for me to trust you & rely on you in the good times & bad times. by @limitlesslaylaa

telling Allah November (day 5)

ya Rabb,

when I think of your Jannah, my heart is filled with longing & hope.

this destination is what makes the struggles in the dunya worth it & I hope that by Your Mercy, You'll grant me entrance into it along with my loved ones.

there are so many things I'm looking forward to in Jannah, subhanaLlah.

& I'm actually grateful to @fmaitambari x @iamaishaahmed ~ from them, I've learnt that you can look forward to even the most mundane things - the things you love.

I want to see Your Face, ya Hayyu ya Qayyum. just typing this is sending goosebumps down my arms & I have this goofy smile on my face. oh wow, seeing You. just wow.

that is enough to want to aspire for Jannah. may Allah make it easy for me & everyone else on this journey.

I want to meet the Rasul and smile at Him. I want drink tea with the Sahabiyat and listen to them talk about how they found Islam and their spiritual growth journeys.

I want to eat good food - have feasts even & never worry about getting fat.

to wish & for it to appear in front of me, sounds like an absolute dream.

I want to play with my friends. the kind of play that is silly but full of rolling on the floor laughter.

I want that unbridled joy. that peace of mind & calmness in the heart. I want it all.

ya Allah, allow me to do the deeds that are pleasing to You & grant me jannatul firdaus. aameen. by @limitlesslaylaa

telling Allah November (day 4)

ya Rabb, when I read this ayah, there's a lot of fear. the "Hour" is fixed and it is coming. this knowledge is only with you, a further proof of Your Sovereignty (for us humans)

there are so many signs of its nearness when I look around in the world. subhanaLlah.

this ayah is also a reminder. to do good & keep striving with ihsan. for the goal is jannah & we'll enter it only by Your Mercy.

oh my Lord, I ask that You make it easy for me to please You, Aameen. by @limitlesslaylaa

telling Allah November (day 3)

ya Hayyu ya Qayyum, I'm not sure there's one word for my mood right now.

I'm happy, excited, unsure & worried all at the same time - all for different reasons.

AlhamduliLah, the beautiful thing is that there's a "why" for each of these emotions & I'm working through it.

ya Rabb, I ask that you never leave me alone even for the twinkling of an eye. Aameen. by @limitlesslaylaa
